Iced Coffee vs Cold Brew – What Are The 3 Big Differences?

Most people probably think of a steaming hot mug when they think of coffee. But regular hot coffee is becoming less popular, especially in the hot summer months, thanks to two other ways to enjoy a brew: cold brew and iced coffee. In this article, we explore the differences between iced coffee and cold brew, including how each is made.

There are several differences between iced coffee and cold brew coffee, but the most prominent are the taste, strength, brewing process, the mixture of ingredients, and aroma that welcomes you and wakes up your taste buds.

How to Make Iced Coffee

Iced coffee uses regular ground coffee brewed in hot water, so the strong acidic notes in the coffee when you first brew it are still there when you cool it. After brewing, the drip coffee is cooled, diluted with water, and served chilled with ice. To enhance the coffee taste further, add sugar or cream.

Iced coffee is easy to make and is the go-to option for people who prefer timeless and strong coffee. Regular iced coffee has a bold flavor due to its bitterness because it uses hot water to draw out the flavors and caffeine from the coffee beans, embracing a brighter, more powerful taste.

How to Make Cold Brew Coffee

Cold brew is a distinctive brewing process that involves immersing roughly ground coffee beans in frigid water for a protracted time span.

Coffee-to-water proportion: An ideal starting point for the coffee-to-water ratio is 1:4 or 1:5. In other words, if you employ 1 cup of coffee grounds, you would want to add 4 to 5 cups of water. It is plausible to modify this ratio according to personal preferences, although a greater ratio would typically generate a bolder coffee flavor.

Immersion duration: The ideal immersion duration for cold brew normally lasts anywhere from 12 to 24 hours, contingent on your desired strength of coffee. It would be prudent to test various immersion durations to ascertain which one works optimally for you.

Brewing approaches: There are several methods to brew cold brew coffee, such as the immersion method and the slow drip method.

The immersion method involves submerging the coffee grounds in cold water for the desired period of time, then filtering out the grounds. This process can be carried out with a French press, a mason jar, or any other container with a cap.

The slow drip method involves gradually dripping frigid water through a stratum of coffee grounds over a long period, generally 6 to 12 hours. This process mandates a specialized slow drip coffee maker and is commonly employed by coffee shops and professional baristas.

This coffee has a more standard flavor profile because people like its smoothness, sweetness, thick and creamy texture, and lack of bitterness that comes from the brewing process. Since the coffee beans are never warmed, the more acidic flavors are not extracted, offering a smooth and rich taste.

How to Make Cold Brew Coffee

Iced Coffee vs Cold Brew

Strength (caffeine content)

When it comes to cold brew vs iced coffee, the significant difference is the brewing process. The hot water poured over the coffee has normal strength, but it diminishes when it hits the ice, becoming watery and moderately bitter.

Iced coffee has up to 40 mg of caffeine (regular strength) and, thus, is cheaper than cold brew coffee, which has as much as 200mg of caffeine in a 16oz cup. On the other hand, cold brew coffee uses double the amount of coffee grounds to get that much caffeine.

Cost

Traditional iced coffee is much cheaper at local coffee shops due to its simple and easy brewing process. In addition, the process of making this coffee is fast. In contrast, cold brew coffee is twice the price of iced coffee due to the amount of beans used, the caffeine content, and the long brewing process.

Flavor

Cold brew coffee is a concentrated drink that has recently gained popularity among coffee drinkers. It is the ideal pick-me-up beverage all year-round, but especially in warm summer months.

A unique cold brew coffee that keeps popping up is Nitro coffee. Nitro cold brew coffee is infused with nitrogen gas to give a delightful texture and taste. It’s been lauded as exceptional by coffee enthusiasts and is an enjoyable alternative.

Now, let’s answer the age-old question, which one is better? Both coffees offer you the uniqueness and delicious taste you need, despite their differences.

Iced Coffee vs Cold Brew

Why Most People Love Cold Brew Coffee

Most people in the US prefer cold brews to regular iced coffee. Cold brew is the better option for them because it is 65 to 67% less acidic and is excellent for those with gastric issues. Thus, it enhances your rate of metabolism by 11%, which feels better for the digestive system.

In addition, it was found that, along with the significant health benefits, the coffee tastes sweeter and is thicker in texture. In addition, it has a slow brewing method and a consistent room temperature.

Why Some People Prefer Iced Coffee

On the contrary, people prefer iced coffee because it has a strong taste and wine-like acidity when chilled. Plus, it is a lot easier to make compared to the extended brewing process of cold brew.

However, some coffee shops have found a new technique for brewing this type of coffee. By brewing hot coffee and then pouring it directly into the ice, you conserve all the natural aromas of the coffee, and it retains much more flavor, much to the joy of coffee lovers everywhere. Alternatively, you can make coffee ice cubes to help your iced coffee keep its flavor. With coffee ice cubes, your drink won’t be watered down as the ice melts, so it stays just as strong.

How to choose? Iced Coffee or Cold Brew Coffee

You may be wondering how to choose between iced coffee and cold brew now that you understand the differences. Here are some other aspects to think about:

Preferences for the Seasons

One of the best aspects of iced coffee and cold brew is that they are both quite adaptable, which means they can be drank all year. Yet, some people enjoy iced coffee in the summer, whereas cold brew may be more appropriate in the cooler months. Consider the season and the type of coffee you prefer at that time of year.

Bravery and Strength

If you enjoy a powerful and strong flavour profile in your coffee, iced coffee may be the ideal option for you. Iced coffee is popular among coffee connoisseurs because of its rich flavour and aroma. Cold brew coffee, on the other hand, may be the way to go if you prefer a milder taste and a smoother finish.

Brewing Procedure

Another thing to think about is the brewing procedure. If you prefer preparing coffee at home, you should think about the convenience of preparation. Iced coffee can be made in a variety of ways, including drip, pour-over, and French press. Cold brew, on the other hand, involves more preparation and time, which may not be suited for individuals looking for a quick and easy caffeine hit.

Health Advantages

Iced coffee and cold brew both have significant health benefits, including improved cognitive function, higher energy, and a lower risk of chronic diseases. It is crucial to note, however, that iced coffee may contain more acid, which may cause stomach pain in certain people. If you have stomach troubles, cold brew may be a better option due to its lower acidity level.

Cost

The price of iced coffee and cold brew varies based on where you purchase it. Cold brew coffee is typically more expensive than iced coffee because it requires more coffee grounds and a longer steeping time. Making iced coffee or cold brew at home can save you money in the long term if you’re on a budget.

Conclusion

To sum it up, both of these cold coffee drinks are perfect in their own way and a great alternative to hot coffee, especially in the summer. The differences lie in the brewing process. Cold brew offers more health benefits, but it is a much more involved process and will cost a little more money.

Iced coffee is a lot easier to make and more affordable, and it does the job when you need a pick-me-up on a hot day. If you want to try something extra special, go for a Nitro cold brew. There are many ways to enjoy a cold coffee drink. Find the one that best suits you.

Should I Microwave My Coffee to Heat It Up?

The Top 10 Best Coffee Mug Warmers - A Comprehensive Guide and Review [2023] 12

Want to quickly heat up your coffee? Microwaving it for a while in the office pantry or your very own kitchen sounds like the obvious choice. While it will get your coffee to an appropriate drinking temperature, it’s not advisable to microwave your coffee to get it hot at all.

This is because of the natural volatile compounds that exist in coffee. Once you reheat your coffee in the microwave, you’ll notice that the texture and taste is different. And no wonder — by reheating it in the microwave, you’ve released the compounds that make coffee bitter!

So, how do you reheat your coffee without the microwave? A saucepan is the answer. Pour your coffee onto the saucepan and let it heat up on low heat until you reach your desired temperature.

However, this only works at home. If you’re looking to heat up your coffee at work or during a camping trip, the best answer is keep it at a good temperature in the first place. Invest in cup sleeves and thermal mugs instead!

It is simple and simple to foam almond milk at home. It’s a terrific method to give your coffee or tea a thick, velvety feel.

How to Steam Almond Milk

In the beginning, alternative, plant-based milk may seem complicated to try and steam in comparison to regular cow’s milk. We’re here to tell you that’s not the case! Here are three ways to steam almond milk at home:

With A Steamer

The most straightforward way to steam almond milk is to use the steamer attached to your espresso machine. Simply pour the milk into a jug and use the attached steaming wand, making sure you get a good froth from the bottom until the surface of the milk.

However, if a steamer isn’t an option for you, we completely understand! There are other alternatives we will jump into.

With a Microwave

For steaming milk in a microwave, you should use a microwave-safe jar. Pour the milk into the jar and give it a good, hard shake. Shake for at least 30 seconds to get everything frothy and bubbly. Now, put it in the microwave on low heat to warm it up. The foam will stay and you have the frothy milk you need for a nice latte!

With A Saucepan

Another easy way to steam almond milk is by using a saucepan. Set your stovetop to a low heat before adding the saucepan with milk in it. Leave it on low heat for a few minutes as you use a hand frother to get the bubbly texture!

The Science of Frothing Milk

how to froth almond milk

While we rarely stop and think of the mechanics of frothing milk, there is a science that determines how well the milk in question will froth. Certain factors decide whether your milk will froth properly and hold its shape or not at all.

To put it simply, the following will determine the way your almond milk will froth:

Protein and Fat Content:

Any kind of milk, dairy, or plant-based, has 3 main components: proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. The amount of fat and protein (and their ratio) is what determines the frothiness of your steamed milk.

Milk containing more fat and protein will froth much more easily than low-fat milk types. Because of this, you should try to buy coffee almond milk with higher fat content.

Milk Quality:

The quality of milk is crucial when using non-dairy variants. Use the freshest almond milk you can find, as milk close to expiring will barely froth at all. Also, some cheaper brands of almond milk use very little almonds, making the milk ultra-thin and watery that won’t even froth.

Even the kind of almonds used is important. Use a brand that uses quality almonds that yield almond milk with a good amount of fat, protein, and sugar. A smooth and rich almond milk will give you the best kind of froth for your coffee.

If you make your own almond milk at home, use good almonds and don’t water it down too much.

Temperature:

Dairy milk is notorious for being finicky; it splits or curdles at high temperatures and goes brown quickly-stuff you wouldn’t want in your cappuccino. Vegan milk also needs to be monitored when heating, as it can curdle as well.

When it comes to almond milk, you need to be extra careful. Almond milk scorches and burns very quickly, so warming in a pan is risky as the milk can boil and burn.

Can you boil almond milk in a microwave? It’s unlikely, so this is the safest route.

The wrong temperature can mess with the froth and cause your milk to lose its texture.

According to a study by the Journal of Food Science and Technology, heating your almond milk to around 65°C (or 150-155°F) is the sweet spot for achieving a great froth.

Can you microwave almond milk without it splitting? Yes, but you have to keep an eye on it.

How to Froth Almond Milk

best almond milk for frothing

This section will look at how to make froth milk using almond milk. Whether you have an espresso machine with a steaming wand or just an old microwave, or single frother unit, you will be able to make steamed almond milk that is textured and velvety.

Using A Steaming Wand:

This may be the most common way to steam milk and is used by baristas and coffee shop workers. Steaming wands come with espresso machines and work by infusing the milk with steam, creating bubbles and texture that give rise to lots of foam.

Here’s how this works:

  1. Add cold almond milk to the steaming pitcher or any steel pitcher.
  2. Hold the pitcher at an angle and place it under the steaming wand.
  3. Insert the steaming wand into the milk, holding just below the surface of the almond milk. Use the steam output dial to give off a steady stream of steam.
  4. Hold the tip of the wand to the side of the pitcher, making a sort of vortex in the milk.
  5. Move the pitcher around the wand, then up and down, as this incorporates more air into the almond milk which splits larger bubbles.
  6. Over time, the bubbles will get smaller and the milk will double in size. Once this happens, your milk is done steaming.  Turn off the dial and remove the pitcher from under the wand.

Your almond milk is done steaming and is ready to use! The thick and frothy milk will smoothly mix with the espresso and has lots of foam that you can use to make latte art.

Using a Handheld Frother:

Battery-operated handheld frothers are the easiest and most accessible way to make steamed milk if you don’t have a home café with an espresso machine and steaming wand attachment. They are cheap, easy to use, and froths milk quickly.

  1. Pour your almond milk in a large jar, mug, or pitcher.
  2. Insert the tip of the frother into the milk, just below the surface.
  3. Turn on the frother and froth the milk for 30 seconds.
  4. Then, move the wand up and down and froth for another 30 seconds.
  5. Finally, swirl the wand around the pitcher and continue frothing until the milk is silky and increases in volume.
  6. Microwave the milk for 30 seconds, as this heats up the milk and stabilizes the foam, giving you a little more time to worth with the textured milk.

Using a Jar:

If you are desperate for a good latte but don’t own a conventional frother, this method is for you. Here is how to froth milk without frother-all All you need is a sturdy jar!

  1. Fill half or a third of a jar with your almond and make sure the lid is screwed on tightly.
  2. Then shake the jar vigorously. This will take a bit of time so don’t lose patience. Keep shaking the jar until the milk almost doubles in size. The process takes around 5 minutes, so consider it an arm workout!
  3. Then, remove the lid and microwave the milk for 30 seconds. This will stabilize the foamed milk and give it a smooth and even texture.
  4. Pour the frothy milk into your coffee, or spoon the foam over your drink.

Tips for Perfectly Frothy Almond Milk

Heating almond milk is tricky, and frothing it is even harder, especially if you are new to the art of whipping up coffee beverages. Combining the two can be intimidating, but these tips will make the whole thing seem much easier!

Use Fresh Milk:

As mentioned earlier, your almond milk needs to be as fresh as possible. Make sure your milk has 5-6 days before it expires, as milk at this stage will yield the most foam and smooth, textured milk. Freshly made almond milk can hold its shape when steamed and is less likely to curdle when heated.

Keep Things Chilly:

When frothing almond milk, make sure the milk is very cold and taken right out of the fridge. Almond milk froths better when cold. Can you warm almond milk before frothing? Yes, but it won’t foam up as well as cold milk.

Use a Smaller Container:

The pitcher you steam or froth your milk should be rather small, just large enough to hold the volume of the milk when it doubles. This will give your frothed milk a nice and even texture, with microbubbles instead of larger ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to questions or issues that arise when frothing almond milk.

02. Is It Possible to Froth Flavored Almond Milk?

As long as the almond milk has the right levels of fat and protein, it will froth just fine. However, if you don’t want to risk messing the milk up, add flavored syrups and sauces after assembling your coffee.

How to Make a Cortado: Discover This Great Coffee Beverage!

One of my favorite past times is trying out different coffee-based beverages, working my way through different variations, flavors, and ingredient ratios.

Besides exploring different flavors, you learn so much more about how different ingredients work together, and you never get confused at the coffee shop!

If you are experimenting with various espresso drinks, you might have come across the cortado. Confused about what this drink is all about? This article will look at cortados and how it is different from beverages like cappuccinos and lattes.

You will also learn how to make a cortado at home with an easy cortado recipe. If you want to learn all about the cortado espresso drink, you’ve come to the right place!

What is a Cortado?

how to make a cortado

The cortado coffee drink is a small beverage, generally served in metallic or glass cups. This beverage is made by combining espresso and steamed milk in a 1:1 ratio. Sounds super simple right? It is a no-fuss drink that is much simpler than lattes and cappuccinos.

Unlike many other drinks we’re used to, cortados don’t have much foam, and baristas don’t make foam art with this drink. Instead, the drink uses creamy steamed milk to cut through the espresso, making a well-balanced beverage that is light and almost airy.

In this vein, the term ‘cortado’ comes from the Spanish word ‘to cut’. It was first made in Spain and spread across the country quickly as it grew in popularity. Like other Spanish drinks, it has nearly almost no foam, instead, the texture of the drink itself is light and well-blended.

The particular ratio of the cortado is meant to reduce its overall acidity. The fact that it is served in small cups means that you can’t customize the size in cafes or coffee shops. They are generally made with 2 shots of espresso and 2 ounces of milk.

Unlike the frothy and heavy milk found in cappuccinos, the steamed milk in cortados is thinner and lighter and is closer to that used in lattes. The cortado is also called a Gibraltar in some places.

What are the Benefits of Consuming Cortado Coffee?

Cortado coffee, like all coffees, has numerous health benefits. It has a lot of antioxidants, which can help protect your cells from free radical damage. Coffee has also been demonstrated to improve mental function and alertness, which can help you stay focused throughout the day.

Caffeine is also present in cortado coffee, which can help to stimulate your metabolism and aid in weight loss. It is crucial to note, however, that excessive caffeine use can have detrimental side effects, which we will explore later in this article.

What are the Risks of Consuming Cortado Coffee?

While there are numerous advantages to drinking cortado coffee, there are also hazards and negative effects to consider. The high caffeine concentration is one of the key problems. Caffeine is a stimulant that in certain people can produce jitters, restlessness, and anxiety. Caffeine can also cause dehydration because it is a diuretic that increases urine output.

The milk component of cortado coffee is another possible concern. Cortado is made with equal parts espresso and steamed milk, which might be problematic for people who are lactose intolerant or allergic to milk. Those who are lactose intolerant may experience digestive troubles such as bloating, gas, and diarrhoea after drinking cortado coffee.

In addition to the concerns listed above, drinking too much cortado coffee might cause insomnia due to the high caffeine level. Consume cortado coffee in moderation and be mindful of your body’s caffeine response.

How to make a cortado at home

how to make a cortado at home

Want to know how to make a cortado at home? This section will show you two easy cortado recipes: one hot and one iced. As long as you have a few simple ingredients and tools, this drink is super easy to make!

Classic Cortado:

The classic cortado is a simple and straightforward drink, with no frills or hard-to-find additions in the recipe.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Grind your coffee beans and then use a good espresso machine to pull 2 shots of espresso. Extract the espresso to a cup that can hold 4 to 4.5 ounces of liquid.
  2. Then, use a milk frother to steam or froth your milk. Since smaller amounts get scorched quickly, it is best to steam 4 ounces of milk. You only need to steam/froth until the milk is silky and airy, there’s no need to keep going until there’s lots of foam.
  3. Pour 2 ounces of the milk into your cup of espresso.

That’s it! You can add the sweetener you want, as well as any syrups or sauces for flavoring when serving. A popular variant of this drink is made by replacing the dairy with condensed milk, which makes for a thicker, sweeter, and more indulgent beverage.

Iced Cortado:

Want to beat the heat on a sweltering day? This chilly version of the Spanish cortado is the perfect drink for the summer.

Ingredients:

  • 2 shots of freshly brewed espresso
  • (Or use 2 ounces of coffee brewed in a Moka pot or percolator)
  • 2 ounces of steamed milk
  • Ice
  • Caramel or butterscotch syrup (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Brew your coffee, or pull shots of espresso from your coffee machine.
  2. Steam 2 ounces of milk until silky.
  3. Combine the milk and coffee.
  4. Fill a separate glass with ice. Then pour the coffee over the ice. As cortados are small portion-wise and are pretty strong, the ice will chill it quickly without watering it down.
  5. Drizzle extra syrup on top if needed. You can also drizzle the syrup around the glass before adding the ice and coffee for a more Starbucks-ish look.

Pro-Tip: Try a shaken iced cortado instead of the regular one! Add the coffee and ice to a cocktail shaker and give it a few good shakes.

The shaking ‘expands’ the coffee and makes it creamier and gives it more body. It also has more foam on top when poured into a glass.

How to make a cortado with nespresso

If you own a Nespresso device, you can use it to make an easy cup of cortado at home. This is a good option if you want a quick drink without any extra equipment. Here is how to make a cortado Nespresso:

Ingredients:

  • Coffee capsule
  • Cold milk
  • Sweeteners/syrups/sauces (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. First, brew the coffee in your Nespresso machine using the capsule. Add the coffee to your cup.
  2. Froth your milk and then heat it in a microwave for 20-30 seconds.
  3. Pour the milk into your coffee, making sure the amounts are in a 1:1 ratio.
  4. Add sweeteners and flavorings if you want and voila! You have a Nespresso cortado.

Cortado vs. Latte:

Cortados are often confused with lattes, as the texture of the milk in both drinks is similar. They also contain the same amount (2 shots) of espresso.

The difference? Lattes contain much more milk, which dilutes the drink. As a result, it is much less potent when compared to cortados.

Also, lattes include lots of silky milk foam, as well as latte art. Cortados are much simpler and have very little foam.

Cortado vs. Cappuccino:

Cortados always have 2 shots or 2 ounces of espresso, whereas cappuccinos have 1-2 shots. Furthermore, while cortados have 2 ounces of milk, cappuccinos will have 4-5 ounces of milk. The milk is more textured and lighter than that of a cortado as it is steamed for much longer.

A cappuccino also has a thick and luxurious amount of micro-foam on top. In contrast, cortados have a very thin layer of foam that isn’t very textured.

Cortado vs. Macchiato:

Macchiatos and cortados have the same amount of espresso, so the only difference lies in the milk. While cortados contain 2 ounces of lightly steamed milk, macchiatos contain 1 ounce of milk that is heavily frothed.

This makes macchiatos smaller in volume than cortados. Because they are more concentrated, you will also get more of a caffeine kick from a macchiato. In comparison, cortados are slightly larger and a little less potent.

Cortado vs. Flat White:

cortado coffee vs flat white

Flat whites are also similar to cortados and contain the same amount of espresso. However, like lattes, flat whites contain more milk which makes it more diluted. The milk is also frothed until it’s very silky and textured, so flat whites have a creamier mouthfeel than cortados.

Flat whites are also much thicker and larger than cortados. They are also more elaborate when compared to cortados because flat whites have more foam on top, with often extensive and fancy foam or latte art.

Best Desserts to Pair Up with a Cortado

While cortados make a killer drink for your morning coffee, or as an afternoon pick-me-up, it is also great with desserts. Serving this beverage with a number of desserts will cement your reputation as the perfect host among your friends:

Cheesecake: We love any excuse to stuff cheesecake into our faces, but this decadent dessert pairs well with this simple coffee. The tanginess is counteracted by the low acidity of the cortado and the creaminess of the cheesecake is matched by the velvety texture of the coffee.

Tres Leches Cake: This dessert isn’t too sweet but it is extremely rich-soaked in a combination of 3 different kinds of milk and frosted with whipped cream. It’s no surprise that it complements the creamy, yet strong nature of the cortado.

Coffee Cake: The classic coffee cake with a cinnamon filling and crunchy streusel topping will taste great with any kind of coffee drink, and the cortado is no exception.

Biscotti: A combination of biscotti and cortado is a fun spin on the traditional Italian breakfast of this cookie and a cappuccino. Almond biscotti is an especially great partner when paired with cortado made with non-dairy milk.

Tiramisu: If you can’t get enough of the delectable coffee flavor in your food and drinks, pairing tiramisu with a strong cortado will give you your caffeine fix. As with cheesecakes, the creamy, tangy, and rich mascarpone in the tiramisu is balanced by the strong, smooth cortado.

Got Any Questions?

Have more questions? Head over to the next portion where you will find answers to questions people often have about cortados.

Starbuck doesn’t have an official cortado, but you can still get one by asking for two shots of espresso with 2 ounces of silky steamed milk on top.

02. Are Cortados and Flat Whites the Same Drink?

Although cortados and flat white are similar, a flat white is different because it contains more milk and is topped with lots of micro-foam.

03. Are Cortados Stronger Than Flat Whites?

Because cortados contain less milk, they are more concentrated and stronger than flat whites.

04. How Does a Cortado Taste?

Cortados are strong, but rather balanced. It is less acidic and the milk added is enough to just cut through the espresso without diluting it. As a result, they have a strong espresso flavor and a creamy and light mouthfeel.

05. Can I Make a Cortado with Almond Milk?

Yes, cortados can be made with plant-based milk like almond, coconut, and soy.

06. How Many Shots are There in a Cortado?

A cortado contains 2 shots of espresso.

While moderate coffee consumption is generally considered safe during pregnancy, it’s recommended to limit caffeine intake to 200 mg per day. Cortado coffee, like other types of coffee, contains caffeine, so it’s important to consume it in moderation during pregnancy.

In a Nutshell

As you can see cortados might just be the easiest coffee drink as there isn’t any guesswork of complex ratios involved. Simply combining equal parts of espresso and steamed milk will give you a perfectly balanced and smooth drink.

Once you know how to make a cortado, you easily customize the drink to your preferences. You can even experiment with things like cream, half-and-half, and even evaporated milk!

Moreover, the combinations of syrups and flavoring that you can play around with. You’ll be sure to love this drink as much as your favorite latte!

Appearance and Built

With a black plastic finish supporting a stainless steel core, De’Longhi EC 155 is a treat to look at. It can easily fit in most modern kitchens, and you can even stash it anywhere since it’s a compact espresso machine.

It features dimensions of just 12.2 x 19.3 x 15 inches, so it wouldn’t take up much space in your counter or storage space. Yet despite its size, it manages to fit in a 35-ounce removable water tank, so you’ll never have to wait long to refill your cup.

DeLonghi EC 155 feels sturdy to touch, though its huge 15 bar pump pressure does tend to take a toll on its metal parts. Then again, its single-dial feature makes everything simplistic and less complicated, so it encourages beginners to use it.

Power

As we mentioned before, EC 155 is tiny but not to be belittled. It boasts an operating power of 1100 watts that generates 15 bars of professional pressure every time it brews. This much power is usually found in heavy-duty commercial espresso machines and not in budget-friendly ones like EC155.

Having many bars of pressure is important to create espressos. Instituto Nazionale Espresso Italiano, the Italian body that determines what espresso should be like, states that an espresso shot should be ideally brewed under 8 bars of pressure.

This is because if your espresso machine can’t create enough pressure, it’ll churn out a thin, brown liquid that doesn’t qualify as an espresso. DeLonghi packs a generous 15 bars in its EC 155, which is more than the ideal.

delonghi ec 155 features

Performance

Delonghi pump espresso machine EC 155 is a basic yet solid barista. It brews two sorts of well-enough authentic barista quality beverages: espresso and cappuccino, as suggested by its name.

Basically, it’s a point-and-shoot model designed for convenience, and hence, there isn’t much room for customization. After you hit the ‘on’ switch, it takes 45 seconds to heat up. Then, the indicator tells you that the unit is ready.

Following this, it’s simply a cycle of brew, froth, and repeat.

You can use an easy-serve espresso pod or ground coffee on EC 155. However, note that espresso coffee beans would require grinding by a separate grinder. This DeLonghi Espresso Maker doesn’t come with an in-built one.

Besides this, DeLonghi EC 155 features a stainless steel boiler system with a dedicated thermostat to ensure you have precisely heated water when you brew espresso. This doesn’t guarantee that all shots will have the same temperature, though; if you don’t let the heating element prep itself for your subsequent cups, you’ll notice they’re colder than the first one.

And when it comes to frothing, you’ll enjoy having a separate thermostat to monitor the temperature of milk during frothing. This allows you to have rich, velvety and fulfilling resultant milk.

So, overall, EC 155’s 15 bar pump pressure, two separate thermostats to regulate water and steam pressure, and dual filtration system results in a rich and satisfactory high-quality espresso or cappuccino.

Considering De’Longhi EC 155’s price point, it’s a pretty good deal. Of course, it can’t produce highly authentic barista quality beverages like the more expensive and sophisticated espresso machines in the market, but it will produce great ones well enough to match those.

Convenience

The DeLonghi EC 155 manual espresso machine is designed as a training wheel for beginners in the espresso game. It features just one control knob for everything and easy infographics at each station of the knob, allowing you to command the unit without trouble.

Moreover, EC 155 Espresso and Cappuccino Maker primes itself, relieving you of the stress and anxiety that can come with priming an espresso machine.

Its water reservoir also has a capacity of 35 ounces, which is quite commendable considering how compact the unit is. A single shot measures about 1 or 2 ounces, and you can have17 to 35 shots before needing to refill the tank.

Maintenance is fairly easy, too. EC 155 notifies you when it needs cleaning, and its drip tray and the water reservoir are dishwasher safe.

cappuccino made with love

Warranty

DeLonghi EC 155 espresso-cappuccino barista has been around for years. This is a good thing, as the model has been perfected several times to have reached its current state. As a result, the EC155 has close to nil complaints regarding the reliability and durability of its parts.

Even then, the manufacturer offers a 1-year replacement warranty on this product for your comfort and peace of mind.

Limitations

Even though this espresso and cappuccino maker packs a handful of sophisticated features that you get in the high-end spectrum of coffee machines, it still has its limitations. So, in this DeLonghi espresso machine review, we figured it’s best to list the features you won’t find in EC 155.

First, it’s not programmable. The only command that you can give the EC155 is via a simple knob. When it brews, you must be there to switch it off as soon as your cup fills up. This is as basic as it goes, so programmability isn’t an option.

So, if you’d like an alternative, try Magnifica ESAM 3300instead. It’s a highly programmable automatic espresso machine from the same manufacturer. That’s your best bet if programmability is your preference.

Also, note that EC 155 is not super fast. Even though this unit primes itself and shows you the green ‘okay’ signal within minutes, some customers feel that it requires a bit of extra time to be actually ready to deliver to its optimum capacity.

Overall, the De’Longhi EC 155 is a good option for people searching for a low-cost, entry-level espresso machine that delivers good espresso.

DeLonghi EC 155 vs. Breville BES870XL Barista Express

The Breville BES870XL Barista Express is another popular option for espresso enthusiasts. The machine has a built-in conical burr grinder, which means you can grind fresh coffee beans for each shot of espresso.

The Breville machine also has a steam wand for milk frothing and comes with several customizable settings to allow you to tailor your coffee to your exact preference. However, the Breville machine is significantly larger than the DeLonghi EC 155, which can be a disadvantage for those with limited counter space.

DeLonghi EC 155 vs. Gaggia Classic Pro

The Gaggia Classic Pro is a top-of-the-line espresso machine that is known for its high-quality espresso shots. The machine has a 3-way solenoid valve that helps regulate the water pressure and temperature, which results in a more consistent and flavorful espresso shot.

Additionally, the Gaggia Classic Pro has a commercial steam wand that allows for perfect milk frothing. However, the Gaggia Classic Pro is more expensive than the DeLonghi EC 155, making it less accessible to those on a budget.

DeLonghi EC 155 vs. Nespresso Essenza Mini

The Nespresso Essenza Mini is a pod-based espresso machine that is designed for convenience and ease of use. The machine uses Nespresso pods to create delicious espresso shots, and it has a compact design that makes it perfect for small kitchens or apartments.

Additionally, the Nespresso Essenza Mini heats up quickly, so you can have a cup of coffee in no time. However, the Nespresso pods can be expensive, and the machine does not offer the same level of control and customization as the DeLonghi EC 155.

How to Use a De’Longhi Espresso Machine

DeLonghi EC155 Espresso and Cappuccino Machine’s best selling point is the convenience that it offers. Everything about it is simple. With EC 155, you can easily brew, clean, maintain, and store your machine without trouble.

But before that, you need to know how to unbox and set it up. To do that, see this handy video:

And once you’re done with assembling DeLonghi EC 155, it’s time to brew your first cup of espresso. For that, here’s another handy video to guide you:

Maintaining Delonghi EC155

If the coffee shots get you energetic enough, you’ll be steadfast in maintaining your DeLonghi Espresso and Cappuccino Maker to reap the most out of it. However, if you’re as forgetful as we are, don’t worry: your EC155 will somehow let you know when it needs cleaning and descaling.

When to Clean Your DeLongi Espresso Machine

Generally, you need to clean De’Longhi EC 155 after every 200 shots that it delivers, if it stops working, and when espresso drips out of the filter holder. Then again, you’re also welcome to occasionally descale it and wash its parts even before that. Descaling a coffee maker works wonders and helps your unit perform at its best.

how to descale delonghi espresso machine

How to Descale DeLonghi Espresso Machine:

To descale your espresso and cappucino machine, you need to have a commercial descaling solution. Something like Essential Values Universal Descaling Solution is great.

Some people use DIY alternatives such as vinegar, too, but manufacturers don’t really recommend this. Ready-made formulations usually work best.

Anyway, to descale De’Longhi EC 155, follow these steps:

Step 1: Turn the machine on. Remove the water tank from the unit and empty it as the machine heats up.

Step 2: Pour 100 ml of descaling solution into the empty water tank, and fill the remainder of the tank with water.

Step 3: Let the descaling solution and water mix.

Step 4: Reinsert this water tank inside the unit.

Step 5: Place an empty container under the steam wand and boiler.

Step 6: Once you see the green ‘Okay’ light, turn the dial to the coffee/hot water option.

The descaling solution will now flow through the machine and come out through the boiler outlet, filling the empty container that you have placed beneath it.

Step 7: Let this go on for about 10 seconds.

Then, turn the steam dial on so that the solution flushes through the steam wand. Allow this to happen for another 10 seconds.

Step 8: Turn the dial off, and repeat this after an interval of 15 minutes until the water tank is emptied. You’re done once that happens.

Make sure that the descaling solution has flushed through the entire unit by repeating the steps again using just water this time around.

Where to Buy DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker

Of course, one place to buy an appliance is the website of the manufacturer itself.

However, purchasing EC 155 from DeLonghi’s website will cost you a tad bit more, and you can expect this pricepoint to remain fairly constant. Amazon sells DeLonghi EC 155 the cheapest, as far as we know.

FAQs

Is DeLonghi a good brand?

The DeLonghi EC 155 espresso machine is made by a reputable company, DeLonghi. This brand has been making barista-quality coffee machines for many years, so it’s well-known for high-quality products at an affordable price. It manufactures all of its espresso machines in Italy, which means the De’Longhi EC155 Pump Espresso is reliable and built to last.

Is a DeLonghi espresso machine worth it?

With a variety of features to choose from, DeLonghi EC 155 gives you more than just the basics. Its frother makes it stand out – it doesn’t only create creamy froth milk; it also drips hot water for tea or instant coffee like a pro!

How long does a DeLonghi coffee machine last?

DeLonghi is a trusted name in the world of quality home appliances. The lifetime of DeLonghi appliances varies from one to another. A lot of it depends on the build quality of the device. While the super-automatic espresso machines last for 5 years or more, the durability of less expensive basic models is expected to be less.

The EC 155 and similar single boiler units last for an average of 2-3 years. This is pretty impressive compared to the price tag this product bears. Besides, chances are, by this time, you will decide to up your game and switch to more advanced espresso machines.

And even if you plan on sticking to this unit, a lifetime of 2-3 years is merely an average estimate. With thoughtful care and maintenance, you never know how long your DeLonghi EC155 will end up staying by your side.

Why isn’t my DeLonghi EC155 working?

If your coffee maker isn’t working, your water reservoir could be empty or your device needs descaling. So, check your water tank to see if it’s full and if so, check your descaling unit or descale your device.

And if descaling still refuses to turn on your DeLonghi espresso machine, you may be suffering from a failing pump. Failing pumps aren’t uncommon. In fact ‘Delonghi EC 155 change water pump’ is a common query on the web.

If this happens within 12 months of your purchase, you’re covered by a replacement warranty. If this happens later, we suggest you contact Customer Service for a consultation.

Can you use regular coffee grounds in a cappuccino/espresso maker?

You can use regular coffee grounds in a cappuccino or espresso maker, but you won’t get the same aroma and taste that an espresso machine can brew out of espresso grounds. If you want suggestions, try Volcanica Coffee. It’s a decent, budget-friendly espresso ground that perfectly pairs with DeLonghi EC155.

I can’t get the filter handle to rotate easily. What should I do?

You’re not alone if you think rotating the filter handle is a hurdle. If you can turn the handle up to or just past the midpoint, it’s good enough. Forcing it to rotate past this point may break it.

Also, a simple way to get rid of this problem is to reduce the amount of coffee you pack into the filter. Your filter handle should rotate better.

How often do I need to descale a DeLonghi coffee machine?

You should descale your De’Longhi coffee machine every 3 months or after every 200 shots that it delivers. This is not a constant rule, though: it mostly depends on the hardness of the water in your locality. Higher mineral content in your water will require you to descale more often.

Can you make regular coffee with a DeLonghi espresso machine?

DeLonghi EC155 espresso machine isn’t just for making espresso. You can make regular coffee with this machine, too. You can use the same filter holder to make your regular brew, but you may need to rinse the filter holder after every cup of coffee made to remove any buildup.

EC 155 has a built-in milk frother, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for a home espresso maker that makes both regular and espresso coffee. Just be sure to clean the milk frother after each use with hot water.

Final Thoughts

DeLonghi EC155 Espresso and Cappuccino Machine strikes the perfect chord between affordability and functionality by offering the power and performance of a professional espresso machine at the price range of simple drip coffee makers.

So, if you think EC 155 will perfectly fit your lifestyle and coffee needs, we encourage you to try it and enjoy quality espresso and cappuccino every day.

Can You Freeze Coffee Creamer? Stretch the Lifespan of Your Coffee Condiment!

A friend of mine once bought coffee creamer in bulk, thanks to an impulse purchase during a flash sale. And as much as I love coffee in all its various flavors and combinations, I could not see what one would do with a nearly endless supply of coffee creamer.

And anyway, wouldn’t the creamer go bad, especially dairy ones?

This gave me an idea. Can you freeze coffee creamer? After all, people freeze brewed coffee all the time, so why not creamer? I was also curious about whether frozen coffee creamer would have the same flavor and texture as the fresh stuff.

So this article will look at coffee creamers and whether you can keep them in the freezer for long-term storage. We will also go into how non-refrigerated creamers compare to frozen creamers.

Coffee Creamer 101: What You Need to Know

liquid coffee creamer

Most people are familiar with one or two kinds of coffee creamer, usually, the stuff found around the house or office break room like Carnation coffee creamer. Can you freeze Coffee-Mate creamer? What about liquid non-dairy creamers?

But before we get into all that, let’s find out more about the different kinds of coffee creamers people tend to use.

Liquid Dairy Creamers:

Liquid dairy creamers are commonly used instead of milk or half-and-half in coffee or teas. These creamers have some kind of dairy product or derivative, oil, thickeners, or emulsifiers. Many dairy creamers also have added flavors like vanilla, hazelnut, caramel, and even things like cookie dough.

Liquid coffee creamers, especially those with dairy have the shortest shelf life and need to be consumed quickly. They either come in large cartons or individual little cups for a single serving.

Liquid Non-Dairy Creamers:

These are the most common kind of liquid creamers and are popular among vegans. These plant-based coffee creamers are made from almond, soy, or coconut milk. They also have additives for additional flavoring, thickeners, and oil.

The main advantage of non-dairy creamers is that they have a longer shelf life than the dairy counterparts. However, like other liquid creamers, they come in either large cartons or jugs or single-serving cups.

Powdered Creamers:

Powdered creamers like Coffee-Mate are generally considered non-dairy products. They are made of corn syrup solids, vegetable oil solids, sugar, fats, and flavoring. Some powdered creamers contain casein, a product of cow’s milk. As a result, vegans need to check powdered creamers for their ingredients.

Other Coffee Condiments:

People often use whatever dairy they have on hand when they run out of creamer. This includes milk, cream, and half-and-half. Many actually prefer these to creamers as they have fewer additives and weird preservatives.

Dairy milk is notorious for its short shelf life so there’s a good chance you want to freeze it as soon as you notice you won’t finish it on time.

Plant-based milks stay fresher for longer, but they need to be stored properly for long periods. Lactose-free milk is also used by those who are lactose intolerant.

How Long does Coffee Creamer Last?

The shelf life of coffee creamer varies depending on the type of creamer and the storage conditions. Most coffee creamers have a shelf life of about two weeks once they are opened and kept in the refrigerator. However, if the creamer is left unopened, it can last for several months.

How Do I Freeze Coffee Creamer?

can you freeze coffee creamer

So now that we know about the kinds of creamers people add to coffee, let’s move onto how to freeze them. The answer to the question can I freeze coffee creamer is yes, but there are a few things you need to consider, depending on the kind of creamer you are dealing with.

This little guide will show you how to freeze coffee creamers, whether liquid or in powdered form.

Freezing Liquid Creamers:

To store unopened liquid creamers in the freezer, simply keep the entire container in the freezer. This will stay good for just over 4-6 months. However, this means that you need to defrost all the creamer at once.

Once thawed, you cannot refreeze the creamer, so make sure that you finish the creamer in the next few days.

Can you freeze liquid coffee creamer outside its container? Yes, of course! You can pour the creamer into an ice cube tray, cover it with foil and leave it in the freezer for a couple of hours.

Then, remove the frozen creamer cubes and place them in a large sealable bag, pushing out as much air as possible before sealing it back up. Place this bag in another freezer bag before placing it in the freezer.

This method is great because it lets you take out as many cubes as needed without thawing all of the creamer. Each cube is also perfect as a single serving of creamer. It is particularly good for iced lattes, as you can add it to cold brew coffee and enjoy a perfectly chilled drink.

These methods work fine with both liquid nondairy creamer and dairy creamer. You can also pour the milk or creamer into a separate tub or container for freezing, but make sure you leave enough space in the container as the liquid will expand as it freezes.

The process works if you want to freeze almond milk, or even to freeze half and half. Straight dairy will last around 6 months in the freezer, especially if it is UHT. Although this may alter the texture slightly.

Can you freeze lactose-free milk? Yes, you can, and just follow the steps mentioned above.

Using Frozen Liquid Creamers:

If you want to use frozen liquid creamers in chilled drinks like frappes and iced coffees, simply use the ice cube tray method. Simply take the frozen cubes and add them to your drink. But if you want to use them in hot coffee, allow the creamer to defrost and melt first.

To do so, simply remove the frozen creamer from the freezer and put it in the fridge to thaw. This will take a few hours to melt.

Then you can add it to your coffee or tea. While there may be a slight change in texture and sometimes the taste, the nutritional value will remain the same.

Freezing Powdered Creamers:

Powdered creamers can be frozen as well, and with great results. This method works best if you want to use your creamer for hot coffee, as it is harder for frozen powders to melt into cold coffee.

To freeze this kind of creamer, just store the entire container in the freezer section. Like liquid creamer, you can store it in the freezer for up to 6 months. To avoid freezer burn, place the container of creamer in a freezer bag for extra protection.

Using Frozen Powdered Creamers:

To use frozen powdered creamer, simply take it out of the freezer and use a spoon to add the powder to your beverage. Powdered products tend to clump up when frozen so you may need to stir thoroughly to get all the creamer to combine with the coffee.

How to Defrost Frozen Coffee Creamer

Make a Plan

The key to successfully defrosting frozen coffee creamer is to plan ahead of time. Defrosting the creamer in the microwave may seem like a good idea if you’re in a hurry and need to use it right away, but it’s not. Microwaving the creamer might cause it to split and become clumpy, which is unappealing in coffee. Instead, prepare ahead and allow the creamer to defrost naturally.

Take out of the Freezer

To begin defrosting frozen coffee creamer, remove it from the freezer. Remove the bottle from the freezer and set it in the refrigerator. Defrosting the creamer will take many hours, so allow plenty of time. It is preferable to thaw the creamer overnight or for at least 12 hours in the refrigerator.

Shake vigorously

Give the creamer a thorough shake when it has defrosted. The creamer may separate if frozen, and shaking it will help mix it back together. Shake the bottle vigorously for 30 seconds.

Examine the Consistency

Check the creamer’s consistency after shaking the bottle. Shake it for additional 30 seconds if it’s still clumpy or separated. Continue the operation until the creamer is smooth and uniform in texture.

Try it out

It’s a good idea to test the creamer before using it in your coffee. Pour a small quantity into a cup and check to see whether it looks and tastes well. If the creamer remains clumpy or has an odd flavour, it is likely ruined and unsafe to use. In this scenario, it’s better to discard it and replace it with a new bottle.

Tips for Freezing Coffee Creamer Properly

Freezing things tends to alter the taste or texture, as the process of thawing can alter its chemical makeup. But if you follow certain steps, you can mitigate this factor and make sure the creamer tastes fresh even after it has been frozen or thawed.

  • Always write the date when freezing your creamer. Use a marker to clearly state the date you freeze the creamer and the date at which it will go bad.
  • Use the creamer within 6 months of freezing, whether it is liquid or powdered.
  • For the best results, freeze the creamer in individual serving portions as this makes it easier to use whenever needed.
  • Defrost the creamer in the fridge instead of on the counter. Simply pop the frozen creamer in the fridge a couple of hours beforehand.
  • A good way to preserve the texture is to shake the thawed creamer before using it. This step makes sure everything gets mixed well.
  • Don’t refreeze your creamer. Once thawed, use up the creamer in a week, and don’t try freezing it again.
  • If you want a quick cup of hot coffee, simply melt the cubes of creamer by using the defrost setting in your microwave. You can also melt it down in a small saucepan on the stove.

Things to Do with Frozen Creamer

Besides melting or thawing to add to coffee here are a few other uses for frozen liquid creamer:

  • Blend it into milkshakes or malts for added creaminess.
  • Blend with cold brew coffee for a DIY Frappuccino.
  • You can also blend creamer cubes with some Baileys and coffee liqueur for a delightfully adult and boozy chilled coffee.
  • If you are out of milk, you can always add some thawed creamer to tea for a flavored chai.
  • Add to crepe, pancake, or waffle batters for added richness and thickness.
  • Use it in hot chocolate instead of milk or half-and-half.
  • Substitute some milk or water with thawed creamer when cooking hot oats for improved flavor. You can even add it to your overnight oats!
  • Crush frozen creamer cubes and serve alongside fresh fruit for a cool and slightly healthier dessert.

Does Starbucks have a free refill policy? How to Get it?

A true Starbucks fan will always crave more. Starbucks knows this as well. That is why they have a refill policy in place. But does this entitle you to a free drink? Time to find out.

Does Starbucks have a free refill policy?

Does Starbucks have a free refill policy?

Starbucks has a free refill policy with a few caveats (covered below). Fortunately, most Starbucks customers would fulfill those conditions and be eligible for a refill.

Free refill policy at Starbucks:

According to Starbucks, a customer using Starbucks app or Starbucks card to purchase a beverage can get free tea/coffee refills during the same store visit. Some conditions to fulfill include:

1. Present the Starbucks card/account

The customer should present the Starbucks card or Starbucks app account to get a refill. Anyone who has ordered through a different card or someone else’s account might not get a refill.

2. Participating stores

Starbuck’s page states free refill policy is valid only at participating stores. The page doesn’t highlight how to discover those stores. The only way is to ask the baristas when you reach the store.

3. Not for drive throughs

Free refill offer isn’t available at the drive throughs.

4. Same-store visit

A customer is eligible for a free refill only when he/she consumes the drink in the store and opts for the refill on the same visit.

Wondering what qualifies as “same visit”?

If a customer steps out and comes back to the store, it is considered a new visit. Even if it is to meet someone or attend a call, technically, you aren’t eligible for a free refill.

5. Only for brewed tea/coffee

Free refills are available for brewed coffee and tea. The same is not available for lemonade or any other bottled beverages. Add-ons will be charged extra.

 6. Original drink doesn’t matter

Let’s say you purchase a latte. Still, the free refills you are entitled to would be brewed coffee (hot and cold) or tea (hot and cold).

So no, you cannot have unlimited refills of your favorite drink at Starbucks.

 7. Store manager is the ultimate authority

The free refill policy of Starbucks is pretty comprehensive. If the store is busy or the store manager thinks you are abusing the policy, he/she can deny you free refills after the first one.

8. Doesn’t work with gift cards

Free refills aren’t available when using a Starbucks gift card.

How to Get a Free Refill at Starbucks?

Simple!

Step 1: Order the first (any) beverage and consume it in the store.

Step 2: Display your Starbucks card/app account while ordering and mention “free refill” along with the name of the drink to the barista. The barista needs to enter a separate code for such orders. Miss out saying “Free Refill” and you might not be able to get one.

Step 3: Pick your drink and enjoy it!

Exceptions to the Refill Policy

Apart from the fact that the manager can deny free refills, there are only a few simple exceptions to the refill policy.

1. No bottled drinks

If your original drink is bottled, you cannot get free brewed tea or coffee refills.

 2. Add-ons charged extra

If you add any extras to brewed tea/coffee refills, you will have to pay for the same.

3. Not for unregistered customers

Unregistered customers can get free brewed tea/coffee refills at 50 cents.

4. Step out & lose

Starbucks policy states that any purchase you make after stepping out of the café door will be considered a new purchase. Even if you step out to meet a friend you won’t be eligible for a free refill.

5. New cup

Refills won’t be served in your older cup. Discard it and order the free refill (procedure highlighted above), and get it in a fresh cup.

Free Starbucks Refill Tips

Does Starbucks have a free refill policy? How to Get it? 14

1. Do not abuse the policy

Technically, Starbucks provides free refills, but after the first refill, it is the manager’s call. The manager can deny the refill if you abuse the policy or if the store is busy.

2. Same serving size

If the first drink (original drink) is of small size, the refill will also be of a small size. You cannot upgrade the size for the free refill.

3. Outside seating is a gray area

Many Starbucks outlets have outdoor seating. The policy states that you won’t get a free refill if you step out of the store. In most cases, if Starbucks has an outdoor sitting area and you use that, you can still get a free refill. However, since there are no clear rules stated in the Starbucks policy(for this), it is the manager’s call.

Why does Starbucks offer free refill?

Many customers might think, isn’t offering free refills a losing proposition for Starbucks?

No, it is not because:

1. Justifies price:

Let’s accept it! Starbucks does charge a premium compared to the local cafe. It has a loyal customer base, but the free refill policy justifies the price. A free refill once in a while helps you recoup the higher cost of Starbucks.

2. Improves customer experience:

Which cafe are you more likely to choose from the 2 below?

Option one: a cafe that offers free refills.

Option two: a cafe that doesn’t.

Most customers will choose option one. Free refills improve the customer experience even if most customers do not opt for the same. In a nutshell, Starbucks improves its customer experience and loyalty by offering free refills.

3. Helps customers be in the store longer:

With free refills, customers will likely be in the store longer. The store will seem busier. In the hospitality industry, busier stores and premises are perceived to be better than vacant ones. Thus, free refills help Starbucks stores attract more patrons.

Changes to Starbucks free refill policy update

Over the years, Starbucks has tweaked its free refill policy. Changes include:

 • Originally, the refill policy had the words “regardless of original beverage.” Those were removed in 2016 and replaced with “purchase a beverage.”

• Around 2016, Starbucks removed the words “some restrictions apply” from its refill policy page.

• Previously, Starbucks rewards program had different levels like green, gold, and so on. Only green and gold customers were eligible for free refills earlier. However, from 2016 any customer having a rewards card is eligible for free refills.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Free refills of hot or cold tea/coffee are available on any hand-brewed drink (not bottled) at Starbucks.

Can I get a free refill if I take my drink to go?

You can’t get a free refill if you consume your drink outside the Starbucks store or buy one through a drive-through.

You can get as many free refills as you want at Starbucks if you meet the conditions. However, the store manager can deny you more refills after the first one.

Can I pay extra to get syrup added to my free refill?

You can pay extra to add syrup, lemonade, or any other add-on to your free refill.

Does Starbucks refill tumblers?

You can refill your tumblers with iced coffee, hot coffee, iced tea, and hot tea. However, when it comes to tumblers, there is only one refill per day.

Conclusion:

So yes, Starbucks does have a refill policy where you can get unlimited iced/hot tea/coffee. While most customers do not utilize this policy, you can if you want free refills(just make sure you meet their conditions).

So, it’s no wonder that Starbucks brought lemonade to the mainstream.

2012: Although when lemonade was introduced in Starbucks remains a mystery, we can trace the introduction of the Starbucks Refreshers beverages in the coffee chain – in 2012, according to this source. This is an important milestone because a few of the lemonade drinks in Starbucks is a fruity amalgam of lemonade and the Refreshers line of fruit drinks.

Very Berry Hibiscus and Cool Lime were the first refreshers to which lemonade was added. More variations were concocted with matcha and iced tea. Another refresher was the Valencia Orange Refresher which was on the menu in 2013 but was discontinued and replaced by the Strawberry Acai refresher beverage. This is still around and makes a wonderfully punchy and fruity drink when lemonade is added.

2017: In 2017, Starbucks fans were surprised by the Unicorn lemonade. Although viral-worthy because of the colorful layers, the drink did not last long. There were two options available. One had layers made of lemonade, blue powder, and pink powder. The second variation had layers of lemonade, blue powder, and passion tea with plenty of ice to create the layers.

2018: Summer Sunrise and Summer Sunset were added to the menu in 2018 although they were limited editions only. These were Starbucks cold foam tea lemonades made with pineapple infusion, lemonade, and classic syrup, topped with Teavana Passion Tango tea with milk, and infused with cold foam.

2022: All these years, you could add lemonade to any drink except a chai- or coffee-based one. However, in August 2022, Starbucks introduced the Cold Brew Lemonade – the classic cold brew with a touch of lemonade. Since then, it has received mixed reactions from Starbucks fans and baristas, according to USA Today. As part of the Summer Menu Remix, Starbucks also added the Black Tea Lemonade blended with ice.

Starbucks secret menu drinks are drinks that you can customize and create by adding various flavors, ingredients, toppings, or adjusting the number of syrups and other ingredients. Thanks to social media platforms, some of these secret menu drinks have become more popular because of the layered effect that makes them more share-worthy.

12 TikTok Sunset Drink

To order this lemonade at Starbucks, ask for a Grande Mango Dragonfruit Lemonade without the diced dragonfruits, with a splash of peach juice, and topped with iced Passion Tango Tea for a layered drink reminding of a sunset.

13 Starbucks Springtime Lemonade

Another popular drink from the secret menu, to make this beverage, ask for a Venti lemonade to be blended with two pumps of raspberry syrup and strawberry acai juice to be poured over the drink. As the strawberry acai juice settles at the bottom of the cup, you will get a lovely ombre effect in the drink.

Depending on the number of pumps of syrup, the fruit juice you’re adding, and other ingredients, the secret menu drinks will vary on the calorie and caffeine count.

How To Customize Your Starbucks Lemonade Drinks: Top Tips

Just click on the different bars under the Customizations option to select sweeteners, toppings, flavors, and other ingredients to add extra zing or take off some of the sourness from your best Starbucks lemonade drink. You can also change the cup size from Tall to Trenta where applicable by clicking on a lemonade you want to order and then choosing the cup size. Here are some pointers to customize your lemonade:

01 If the classic lemonade is too sour for you, ask for extra water to be added to it.

02 Add raspberry syrup to classic lemonade to make a raspberry lemonade

03 Choose a sugar-free syrup like the sugar-free vanilla syrup to enjoy the lemonade without piling up on calories.

04 Starbucks lemonade already contains sugar so if you don’t want to add more, click Lemonade under Customizations, click Edit, and select Light Lemonade.

05 Add extra freeze-dried fruits like dragonfruit, strawberries, or pineapples for the texture, taste, and health benefits of fruits.

The Ultimate Guide To Starbucks Lemonade Drinks: Refreshingly Tart And Sweet 15

06 For a dose of creamy thickness, add strawberry puree.

07 Add sauces with caution as not all of them will make a great pairing with lemonade. Take mocha sauce for example. The chocolate and cocoa flavor clashes with the tanginess of the lemonade, IMHO.

08 Go for whipped cream with the blended strawberry lemonade to make it more delicious.

09 Ask for your lemonade to be double blended for a smoother sipping experience.

10 Lemon and tea is a match made in heaven so don’t shy away from adding chai for more flavorful customization.

Best Time To Enjoy Starbucks Lemonade Drinks

Although you can enjoy a lemonade drink from Starbucks throughout the year, it’s during the long and hot summer months that it really shines. The zesty and refreshing drink can be enjoyed in the afternoon as a pick-me-up when energy levels are hitting a low or enjoyed in the evening as a sweet and sour treat. But nobody will judge if you want to drink lemonade to quench your thirst during the day.

These Starbucks lemonade drinks are a great way to celebrate the onset of Spring. Order a springtime lemonade drink to mark the beginning of warmer weather. Or, if you’ve been slogging at the gym, reward yourself with a tangy treat of a Starbucks lemonade drink to refresh and rejuvenate.

Instead of a regular dessert, you can customize a lemonade drink with extra syrup to make it

indulgent and decadent with the perfect sweet and tart flavor. To avoid dehydration by drinking too much coffee, sometimes I order an iced peach green tea lemonade. If you don’t want a caffeine overdose, sipping an iced passion Tango tea lemonade is the best alternative.

Have a soothing lemonade drink with a hot honey citrus mint tea if you want to bust a cold and comfort yourself.

Conclusion

Starbucks lemonade drinks are a great way to quench your thirst in summer, as an afternoon pick-me-up, a sweet and tangy treat, a post-workout refresher, or a comforting cure for a cold. There are many lemonade drinks on the regular menu at Starbucks, but you can make your own by customizing your lemonade with extra syrup, extra or light lemonade, sweeteners like honey, inclusions like freeze-dried fruits, etc. With countless customizations, you can make a seasonal or occasional lemonade drink from a base of classic lemonade or one of any of the fruity Refreshers drinks. Next time you’re in a Starbucks store, try your hand at making your own lemonade drink. It just might get Instagrammable!

Trenta At Starbucks: It’s Massive!

What’s the trenta size at Starbucks? A full guide to all the Starbucks cup sizes, their history, and why all drinks are not served in the Starbucks size trenta.

Starbucks’ unique cup size names can confuse people, especially me when I went for the first time. I mean, all of those names are different ways to describe “large”, right? Except for one – the Trenta (okay fine, Venti doesn’t mean “large” either, but I digress).

It’s so large that they gave up on using “large” to describe it. It actually means thirty in Italian, which reflects its typical volume of 31 ounces.

In this article I’ll explain what Trenta is, where it’s available, how you can order it, and compare it against other popular Starbucks cup sizes so you know when to (and not to) order it.

Why Is The Trenta Called The Trenta At Starbucks?

Trenta At Starbucks

It all started in 1983 when the ex-Chairman and CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz, visited Italy and was mesmerized by their Italian coffee bar culture. So, when he returned to the USA, he founded his cafe called Il Giornale where he tried to emulate the Italian coffee bar setup. Until then, it was just a cup of Joe for Americans. But Schultz turned coffee into a more involved and exotic experience.

That’s why he used the names of cup sizes like Grande, Venti, and Trenta and beverages like macchiato, cappuccino, and latte used in Italy when he later became the owner of Starbucks. This made sure that the essence of the Italian coffeescape trickled right down into the US.

How Big Is Trenta?

Cup SizeFluid Ounces (fl oz)
Short8 fl oz
Tall12 fl oz
Grande16 fl oz
Venti20 fl oz
Trenta31 fl oz

The word Trenta means thirty in Italian. It is XXL and is the largest cup size at 31 ounces (800 ml) and not all drinks are available in this size but there’s a good reason behind it. You see, if you order, for example, a Caramel Frappucino blended beverage at Starbucks in a Venti or 24-ounce size, it already has about 380 calories. So imagine where the calorie needle would go if you ordered a frappe in the Trenta size of 31 ounces! That’s why frappuccinos are not served in Starbucks size Trenta. Frappuccinos are overly sweet as is and so the largest size available is Venti.

To put Trenta into perspective, it’s approximately 5 cups of standard 6-ounce coffee cups with 5 shots of espresso.

What Drinks Are Available In Trenta Size?

There’s a wide range of Trenta size drinks to choose from cold coffees, iced teas, and cold drinks selection. Here’s a handy list of the drinks available in the Trenta at Starbucks so you can decide before walking into a store. Some of them may be seasonal so you might not see them depending on the time of year.

Is The Trenta Size Available In All Regions?

The Trenta size is available in the US and Canada. However, it’s not available in other countries at the time of writing this.

For example, in Starbucks UK, Trenta is not available. Similarly, if you go to Thailand Starbucks, you will notice that the Trenta size is not available there either.

How Can You Order It?

Trenta At Starbucks: It’s Massive! 17

First of all, you can’t order the Trenta size drinks on the Starbucks app. Therefore, you need to be present at the store to do so. Once you have reached your preferred store, you won’t find the Trenta size mentioned on the regular menu. Fret not! The Trenta size is part of the Starbucks secret menu. The secret menu includes all the regular drinks plus the iced drinks that you can customize according to your taste by adding various toppings, syrups, and other ingredients, keeping the base drink ingredients the same. To do this, you need to speak to the barista.

Another point to remember when you order a Trenta size drink at Starbucks is that this size is applicable for cold drinks only. You can order cold coffees, iced teas, and some fruity drink options from the cold drinks selection in the Trenta cup. Hot drinks are not offered in the Trenta cup.

When you order a Trenta cup size drink at Starbucks, keep in mind that the drink will contain 7 pumps of syrup.

Scroll down to take a look at the syrups that are lower in calories so that you are sure you’re not overloading your favorite drink with too many calories. Or too much caffeine for that matter. The Trenta size of iced coffee contains 280 milligrams of caffeine compared to 235 milligrams of caffeine in a Venti cup. So, if you are wary of caffeine intake, don’t forget that when you order a Trenta drink from Starbucks.

The bottom line: You need to specifically mention Trenta when you order a Trenta size cold drink from the barista at Starbucks while keeping in mind both the caffeine and the calorie intake.

7 Tips To Customize Your Trenta Size Order At Starbucks

Follow these tips to customize your Trenta size order at Starbucks for a new and refreshing experience.

  • For a different flavor profile, switch up the classic syrup with hazelnut, caramel, or any other syrup that you fancy.
  • Ask for more or less ice to make your drink as cold as you want.
  • Experiment with heavy cream for a richer and creamier texture.
  • Ask to replace dairy with non-dairy alternatives if you’re lactose-intolerant.
  • Ask for sugar-free syrup or 2% milk if you want to cut down on the calories you take.
  • Try a flavored cold foam to top your Trenta drink.
  • Request for a caramel or mocha drizzle or any other flavor you like to line your Trenta cup with.

Is The Trenta Size Worth It?

Trenta At Starbucks: It’s Massive! 18

The Trenta size costs $0.50 more than Venti, which is about 17% more expensive. But in terms of volume, it’s 55% more! For an iced coffee, there’s about 19% more caffeine. While that seems like quite the value, you must consider your total calorie intake and the freshness factor.

In summer, cold drinks taste best when consumed within 30 minutes. Drinking 31 ounces of fluid in that time is no small feat! If you don’t finish it, the over-savings become negligible. But if you’re up for the challenge, make sure there are bathrooms nearby! Otherwise, sharing with a friend could work too.

If you enjoy customizing your drinks then that would improve the value of going for Trenta since the cost of customization is a lot more than the size upgrade.

I personally would stick to ordering Venti as my largest size for iced coffee though. If I take any more caffeine then my mornings would feel groggy. Iced tea on the other hand would simply be too much for my bladder.

Espresso Shots And Caffeine Content In Starbucks Cup Sizes

Trenta At Starbucks: It’s Massive! 19

Take a look at the number of espresso shots in Starbucks cup sizes so that you can keep a finger on the amount of caffeine you are consuming.

However, there are a few exceptions. For example, Frappuccinos contain a solo espresso shot no matter what size you’re ordering. Similarly, a Venti hot beverage usually contains doppio or two shots of espresso but you will get three shots if you order a hot Americano or a flat white in the Venti cup.

Here’s a quick refresher that 400 milligrams of caffeine is the daily caffeine intake limit for a healthy adult according to Mayo Clinic. In order to get a clearer picture, each shot of espresso at Starbucks contains 75 milligrams of caffeine. Now you can easily calculate the number of espresso shots in your drink and what that means in terms of caffeine content. But you should also keep in mind that caffeine content depends on whether the coffee used is a light, medium, or dark roast like this, the brewing method, the type of coffee (regular, decaf), and the type of coffee beans used. Learn more about how much caffeine in Starbucks drinks so that you don’t overdo the caffeine kick.

Number of Pumps Of Syrup In Starbucks Trenta Size And Other Cup Sizes

Trenta At Starbucks: It’s Massive! 20

Along with the caffeine intake, you might be counting your calorie intake too and nothing can dial up your calorie count as sugar does. So, next time you order your favorite Starbucks beverage with flavored syrup, think about how many pumps of syrup are going into each Starbucks cup size.

If you have been indulging in a pump or two of hazelnut syrup where each pump has 20 calories, you may want to switch to brown sugar syrup that has 10 calories per pump.

What Drinks Come In A Trenta At Starbucks?

Only cold beverages come in a Trenta size at Starbucks. These are iced coffee, cold brew, Starbucks refreshers, Teavana Shaken Iced Tea, and Teavana Shaken Iced Tea Lemonade.

What is a Breve? Why You Have to Try This Latte Variation

If you drink your coffee with steamed milk or dairy, there’s a good chance that you’ve been drinking cappuccinos, lattes, flat whites, or macchiatos regularly. These drinks all come with espresso, steamed milk, and are topped with foam, each with different ratios.

But have you heard of the more elusive breve?

If your first thought was ‘What is a breve?’, you aren’t the only one. The Starbucks breve latte can seem like a confusing concoction, especially if you aren’t sure how it is made.

But we’re here to clear up the confusion. We are going to tell you exactly what a breve is, its components, as well as how you can make one at home. If you’re always on the lookout for new drinks, you’re going to love giving this one a try!

What is a Breve?

what is a breve

The breve definition is a good place to start. Instead of milk, a breve is made with steamed half-and-half. It is an American variant of the classic Italian latte. Like other coffee beverages, this drink is also topped with milk foam.

What about its taste and texture? Well, breve half-and-half is what makes it special. Because of the higher fat content of the half-and-half, breves have a fluffier and creamier feel than your standard latte. It is also much richer and sweeter, so many people skip adding sweeteners to their breve.

Not sure how to order this drink from a coffee shop? You can simply call it a breve or one of its other names. These include cafe breve, breve coffee, or latte breve. If your barista isn’t sure, simply order a latte but tell them to use half-and-half instead of milk.

This beverage is much creamier than a latte or cappuccino and feels indulgent without going over the top. It is also much more flavorful and complex than a basic coffee, making it the perfect choice for adventurous palettes.

What about the proportions? It’s pretty simple; equal parts brewed espresso and steamed half-and-half. Top off your cup with a good layer of that silky foam, and you have a breve. Breves also make much more foam than plain milk because it contains more fats.

The origin of Breve

The origins of the breve coffee drink may not be widely documented, but its delicious taste and creamy texture have made it a staple in coffee shops across the United States. Believed to have originated in the mid-20th century, the breve has been winning the hearts of coffee lovers with its unique blend of flavors and ingredients.

The Italian Influence: Understanding the Name Breve

The word “breve” comes from the Italian language, meaning “short”. This refers to the use of half-and-half instead of whole milk in the preparation of the drink. This unique twist on traditional coffee making sets the breve apart and gives it a distinct, creamy taste that is sure to please.

What Does Breve Mean In Coffee

In the world of coffee, breve means a brief or short drink. If you make an espresso drink that’s breve, it will be much shorter in height than other drinks because when half and half are steamed, it won’t double in height as when you’re steaming milk that has a much lower fat content.

The higher fat content of breve milk makes it sweeter and you can easily skip adding any sugar or syrup to your breve drinks.

So what does breve mean in coffee?

It means you get a shorter drink that’s made from steamed half and half, which tastes creamier, richer, sweeter, and smoother.

The Variation of the Breve

As any barista knows, the art of crafting the perfect espresso lies not only in the quality of the coffee beans and the precision of the extraction, but also in the personal touch added through the use of flavor syrups and toppings. One aspect that often goes overlooked in this customization process is the variation of the breve – a type of latte made with half-and-half instead of milk.

But the variation of the breve is not limited to simply the choice between whole milk and half-and-half. In fact, the breve can be elevated to new heights with the judicious selection of flavor syrups and toppings. So, without further ado, let us explore the possibilities of the breve, and present a table detailing the different variations that can be achieved through the use of different flavor syrups and toppings.

Flavor Syrups: Vanilla, Caramel, Hazelnut, Cinnamon, Peppermint

Toppings: Whipped Cream, Chocolate Shavings, Caramel Drizzle, Crushed Cookies, Cinnamon Dust

Flavor SyrupsToppingsVariation of the Breve
VanillaWhipped CreamVanilla Dream Breve
CaramelChocolate ShavingsCaramel Choco Breve
HazelnutCaramel DrizzleHazelnut Bliss Breve
CinnamonCrushed CookiesCinnamon Crush Breve
PeppermintCinnamon DustPeppermint Spice Breve

As the table shows, the possibilities for breve variation are nearly limitless. The breve truly has something for everyone, whether you prefer the sweet and creamy richness of a Vanilla Dream Breve or the warm and comforting flavour of a Cinnamon Crush Breve.

So, the next time you’re in a café, don’t settle for a regular old latte. Consider the breve version and discover the distinct flavour sensation that only this unappreciated drink can deliver.

What Is Breve Milk

Breve milk is not regular milk but consists of steamed half and half – half whole milk and half heavy or light cream. Half and half have a higher fat content – 12% – as opposed to regular whole milk, which contains 4% fat content.

As a result, espresso beverages made with breve milk will taste richer, smoother, and creamier, and will be heavier on the palate. And you will get a thick creamy layer on top.

Breve means “short” or “brief” in Italian and it’s best paired with short drinks like macchiatos and cortados that use less milk than a regular latte.

Is there non-dairy Breve Milk?

You can try making a vegan breve by substituting the half-and-half with a combination of equal parts non-dairy milk (almond or soy milk), coconut cream or vegan coffee creamer. However, the taste and texture will differ from a classic breve.

Breves are often served as dessert drinks because of how rich and heavy they are. However, many people choose to drink it as their morning coffee.

Want an ideal breakfast? We recommend a breve crepes and coffee combo. Light and airy crepes make the perfect companion to this rich and luxurious coffee and the two balance each out perfectly.

While it is often drunk without adding any sweeteners, you can add sugar or Splenda according to your tastes. Some people even prefer it flavored with syrups like toffee, hazelnut, salted caramel, cinnamon dolce, and even raspberry!

What Is Breve At Starbucks

If you’re thinking about what is breve at Starbucks, well it’s nothing other than steamed half and half! If you order a breve at Starbucks, you’ll get a cozy cup of steamed half and half.

That’s because, at Starbucks, they take the meaning of breve milk literally. So, don’t be surprised if your breve comes without a trace of espresso in it.

When you order a breve at Starbucks, you need to specify if you’d like a breve latte or a breve cappuccino. Then you’ll get a latte or cappuccino with steamed half and half or breve milk instead of regular milk.

Breve vs Latte

Breve vs Latte

The type of dairy used gives rise to a number of differences when we compare latte vs breve. The fat content of the milk used in latte vs half and half used in breve changes the whole coffee cup scenario in terms of taste, texture, composition, and calories. The serving size is another point of difference.

The latte consists of ¼ espresso, and ¾ steamed 2% or whole milk or even any plant-based milk and is topped with a skinny layer of foam.

On the other hand, breve drinks contain ¼ espresso, ½ steamed half and half, and ¼ half and half foam.

Latte has a lot of milk and has, therefore, less of a coffee flavor and is sweet as well.

The high-fat content in breve milk makes the breve beverage taste creamier with a tinge of caramel notes as the steaming process causes the sugar in the whole milk to caramelize and make it taste sweeter than a latte. Plus, you will get a stronger coffee flavor in a breve drink.

Breve is served typically in a 5- or 6-ounce (150 to 180 milliliter) cup while the serving size of a latte can vary anywhere between 6 to 20 ounces (180 to 591 milliliter).

The calorie count is understandably much higher in a breve beverage than a latte, thanks to all the cream and whole milk fat. The half and half in breve have 12% fat content which is at least three times higher than the 4% fat content in whole milk used in a latte. And you can consume fewer calories in a latte if it’s made with low-fat milk.

A 12-ounce breve contains 420 calories, 36 grams of fat, and 15 grams of carbs compared to the same size of a latte made with regular milk has 150 calories, 6 grams of fat, and 15 grams of carbs (source: https://heyjoecoffee.com/breve-vs-latte/)

The appearance of the two is a little different also. The latte has a thin layer of foam on top whereas the thick layer of foam on the breve drink gives it a distinct look.

How to Make a Breve at Home

You don’t need to go to Starbucks to enjoy a good breve! Instead, make it at home and enjoy this indulgent drink as a pick me up after a hard day.

If you have a coffee bar with the necessary equipment like a quality espresso machine, this will be much easier, but we’ll show you how to substitute things for your convenience.

What You Need:

  • 2 ounces espresso or freshly brewed strong black coffee
  • 2-3 ounces of half-and-half (or your non-dairy version)
  • A whisk or frother

Optional:

  • Sweetener
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Syrups of your choice

Step by Step Guide:

  1. Make some espresso or brew some coffee. If you have an espresso machine, use it to pull two shots of espresso. If not, brew some strong black coffee.

If you’re in a pinch you can use an automatic drip coffee maker, but we suggest using a Moka pot, percolator, or French press.
  2. Pour 2 ounces of coffee or espresso into your cup.
  3. Steam your half-and-half. If you don’t have half-and-half, combine equal parts of whole milk and heavy cream.

You can use the steaming wand from an espresso machine. Otherwise, heat up some milk in the microwave or on the stove until very hot and use a frother or whisk.
  4. Once the half-and-half is silky and there is a decent amount of foam on top, pour the steamed dairy into your cup of coffee or espresso, holding back the foam.
  5. Use a spoon to pour or scoop the foam on top of the coffee.
  6. At this stage, you can add your sweetener or syrup if desired. You can also sprinkle a little powdered cinnamon over the foam if you want.

Your breve is ready and you can pair it with cookies, or a good coffee cake to complete the experience!

Other Breve Drinks

You don’t have to drink your breve the same way all the time. Using this drink as the foundation, you can make or order variants that are just as decadent but more exciting!

A good example is the white mocha breve, which is the typical breve but with an ounce of melted white chocolate or white chocolate syrup added to it. You can also add peppermint syrup for a Christmas-y breve or pumpkin spice syrup to infuse it with fall vibes.

Trying to beat the heat? Use cold brew instead of espresso and pour your breve over ice.

You can also add a couple of pumps of caramel sauce or cinnamon dolce and blend your breve with ice for a thick and relaxing iced breve. The possibilities are endless so you can even come up with your custom flavor combinations!

A breve tastes a lot like a regular latte, but it is much richer and more flavorful. It is also a lot sweeter and dessert-like because of the cream in the dairy.

03. Are Breves Hot or Cold?

Although breves are most often made as a hot beverage, they can be served cold as well. To do so, blend with ice or serve it poured over a glass full of ice.

04. What are Breve Style Drinks?

These are any kind of coffees that use half-and-half instead of milk. You can get breve style mochas, cappuccinos, macchiatos, etc.

05. Which is Healthier- Breve or Latte?

Because of the half-and-half, breves contain more cholesterol. As a result, they are rather unhealthy. For a ‘skinny’ drink, order a regular latte with skim milk and use Splenda or go sugar-free.

In Summary

Now that you know all about this fancy and decadent drink, next time someone asks you if you want a breve, your reaction won’t be ‘what’s a breve?’ Instead, you will be able to order one easily, adding your own spin and flavors to customize your drink.

We strongly recommend trying a breve─ it might just end up being your favorite drink!
