When to Clean Your Blackstone Griddle

You will know it’s time to properly clean your Blackstone griddle if any of these matches your situation:

  • Uneven cooking of meat
  • Grease buildup on the surface
  • The griddle surface feels sticky to the touch.
  • Burnt flakes on the surface.

It doesn’t take much to clean your Blackstone Griddle after each use. But it sure is necessary to maintain the quality. If you don’t clean your griddle, it will begin to rust and deteriorate over time.

The good thing about the Blackstone griddle is, the surface is made out of stainless steel. This means it does not require too much elbow grease to clean and maintain.

You will need:

  • Griddle scraper
  • Cooking oil
  • Sponge
  • Tablecloth/ paper towel
  • Lemon juice
  • Sandpaper

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Turn up the heat to 300-350 degrees. As the griddle starts to turn very hot, bring out your scraper and scrape off the surface with it. This will help you to get rid of all the food particles, grease, and burnt pieces from it.
  2. After you are done scraping the surface, pour some warm water on it. This helps to remove the grease buildups. As the surface is totally flat, you have to be careful not to burn yourself.
  3. After the surface cools down a little bit, use your sandpaper or griddle pad to scrub away the entire surface. You don’t have to put too much pressure on it. By this point, the grease and burnt will come off fairly easily.
  4. Rinse the surface properly and then use your paper towel to wipe it off.
  5. Use some lemon juice and a soft tablecloth to wipe away any leftover grimes. You can also use a stainless steel cleaner for this step.
  6. Make sure the surface dries properly before you move on to re-seasoning it. It needs to be clean and bone-dry.

To Get Rid Of Rust from Blackstone Griddle

Griddle

The joy of cooking outside with the Blackstone griddle is incomparable. The griddle, however, can not handle the harsh weather if you don’t season and maintain it properly.

Maybe you didn’t know about regular cleanups and now your Blackstone has rust all over its flat-top. No worries as we have easy ways to eradicate rust from Blackstone Griddle.

You will need:

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Before you do anything else, put on your gloves to prevent any accidental burns. Turn your griddle to high heat and let it sit for 2 minutes. This helps to weaken the rust on top of the surface.
  2. Turn the heat off and let it cool down for a while. Once it is bearable to touch, bring out your metal scraper and start scraping off all the rust from it. It will also remove all the cooking buildups and grease.
  3. After you are done scraping off all the corrosion from it, bring out your cooking oil and apply a few tablespoons all across the surface.
Start scrubbing the flat-top with griddle stone or sandpaper. Do it in a circular motion to prevent any scratch marks. You can also use steel wool for this.
  4. Use a paper towel to remove all the oil and rust from it.
  5. Repeat the process as many times as needed.
  6. After you are properly done cleaning off the corrosion, add another 3-5 tablespoons of cooking oil and wipe it off with a clean towel.
This helps to remove any rust residue. Keep doing it until the paper towel looks fresh and white.
  7. The next step is to season the griddle which we will talk briefly about in a moment.

How to Season a Blackstone Griddle

If you have never seasoned your Blackstone griddle before, you will be surprised by the result. Ideally, you should season your grill on a regular basis to keep it rust and damage-free. It also helps to cook food easily with less oil.

You will need:

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. First things first, you have to clean your griddle before you plan to season it. If you did clean your griddle a few days ago, it doesn’t hurt to do a gentle wiping with dish soap and a paper towel.
This will remove all the dust and grease from the surface. After that, let the surface dry completely.
  2. Now that the griddle is squeaky clean, preheat it at the highest settings for 10-15 minutes. Alternatively, you can heat it up until the surface starts to go dark brown. When you notice this, turn off the burner.
  3. Let the surface cool down properly. Then apply a very thin layer of oil all over the griddle. Use a paper towel to wipe it around and distribute the oil evenly.
Some people debate on what type of cooking oil to use. You can use any available cooking oil for this. We like to use olive oil for its high bonding abilities.
  4. Repeat this process a few times then turn on the griddle again. Let it get super hot.
It will start to burn the oil but that’s okay. We want the oil to be burnt. But this, a good portion of the oil will solidify on top and create a protective barrier against moisture.
  5. After it’s done, let it cool down completely and add another layer of oil. Then turn the burner on again. Repeat this process 3-4 times to create a durable and solid seasoning.

Blackstone Griddle Maintenance Tips

Blackstone Griddle Maintenance

All the steps we have mentioned earlier are a part of using your griddle. They need to be done on a monthly basis.

But there are some things that you should always do to maintain the quality of the griddle. If you regularly take care of your Blackstone griddle, it doesn’t take too much work to deep clean it.

Here are our tips to maintain the griddle overtime:

  • Use a griddle scraper after each use to remove all the buildups of grease and burnt food.
  • When the flat top is cold, spray the surface with dishwashing liquid and give it a good rinse. Use paper towels to wipe it clean.
  • Paper towels are your best friend. Use them to casually remove grease, to dry the surface, or to remove dust. It takes no time and effort but leaves the surface feeling fresh as new.
  • It is a smart idea to re-season your grill after each use. If you use the griddle on a daily basis, do it twice a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

01. Can I Leave My Blackstone Griddle Outside?

Yes, you can leave your Blackstone griddle outside. But you have to be careful about it.

Blackstone griddle, just like any other stainless steel griddle can rust when exposed to moisture. To ensure this doesn’t happen, you have to keep it inside a shade or put a protective griddle cover on top.

If you actually do these things, you can use the griddle even in the wintertime to cook delicious warm dishes for family and friends.

02. Why is My Blackstone Griddle Sticky?

If you try to use your Blackstone griddle and notice food sticking to its surface, then the problem might be in your seasoning. You have to properly season your Blackstone griddle for it to feel almost nonstick.

Oftentimes we only season our griddles with one coating of oil. This is simply not enough. You need to apply multiple coatings of oil to fix the issue.

However, if you use too much oil, it won’t create the kind of protective layer we are expecting from seasoning. As a result, food will stick to it.

03. What is the Best Oil to Season a Blackstone Griddle?

There are many debates on this topic. You can use pretty much any type of kitchen oil to season your Blackstone Griddle. But of course, some oil has better bonding abilities than others.

Blackstone even sells their own seasoning conditioner. We recommend trying that out for the maximum result.

For household oils, extra virgin olive oil and flaxseed oil have the best seasoning qualities to them. They can be used to create multiple layers of seasoning and they don’t gum up like regular vegetable oil. You can also use canola oil for it.

Finally

A lot of griddle owners think investing in an expensive griddle is enough to keep it looking shiny and new. But the truth is, you have to put love and care into the griddle to maintain its performance.

Now that you know how to clean Blackstone griddle, hopefully, you will take care of yours.

Blackstone Griddle is super easy to clean and season compared to other options in the market. So keep it clean and enjoy delicious BBQs all year round!

An Intro to Rockfish

How to Grill Rockfish

If you aren’t used to fishing there’s a good chance you haven’t heard about rockfish all that much. People tend to be a lot more used to grilled snappers, mahi-mahi, salmon, and swordfish.

So, what is rockfish? Rockfish is a generic term that can be used to refer to lots of species (around 60!)  of fish.

What is Rockfish?

Any fish that darts around rocks in the water can be called a rockfish. These include striped bass, sebastidaes, salvelinus and grouper.

Rockfish are good for you because they contain healthy fats, vitamins, and can boost brain power, and can reduce the likelihood of diseases. It is also a pretty healthy component as rockfish calories are pretty small in number per serving.

Rockfish taste best when grilled because the fish goes soft and flakey and absorbs the marinade or spices very well.

When smoked, it adds dimension and the charred flavor goes very well with the fish. Pan-fried rockfish is also great, but grilling, whether on a gas grill or charcoal one, is a healthier alternative.

What You Will Need

  • Rockfish of your choice
  • Oil or cooking spray
  • Seasonings like pepper, paprika, or chili flakes
  • Herbs like thyme, basil, and parsley
  • Lemon or orange zest and slices
  • Aromatics like garlic and ginger
  • Spatula and tongs

How to Grill Rockfish

How to Grill Rockfish: Soft, Flakey and Juicy! 1

Now that we’ve got all the introductions out of the way, let’s talk about the grilling process. If you follow the steps mentioned here, you are guaranteed to make scrumptious grilled rockfish every time you try.

Getting the Grill Ready:

01. Before you start, prep your grill. Preheat the grill on high at 400-450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Bringing the grill up to a high temperature helps caramelize the fish and give them the signature grill marks that add to an intense smokey flavor and appealing appearance.

02. Keeping the temperature on high will also reduce the amount of time needed to cook the rockfish grill. Best of all, it will prevent the fish from sticking to the grill.

03. The next thing to do is to clean the cooking grates with a stainless-steel brush to remove any kind of cooking debris that may still be left from previous grilling. This will also prevent the fish from getting stuck to the grill.

Grilling Your Fish with the Skin On:

  1. Let your fish sit for 5-10 minutes to bring it down to room temperature. This will help to reduce the chances of sticking.
  2. After that, coat the sides of the fish with the rockfish marinade. You can also use a little oil with herbs or seasoning, and a splash of lemon juice. This step applies to both fillet pieces and whole fish.
  3. Grease the flesh side of the fish and place it flesh side down directly on the grate if you want to sear the surface and grill according to your recipe.

After it is finished being grilled on that side, the rockfish will release by itself from the cooking grate. If you don’t want a sear, just place the fish skin side down directly on the grate.
  4. The rule of thumb is to allow 8-10 minutes of grill time per inch of fish thickness. If your fish is two inches thick, grill each side for about six to eight minutes.

In other words, grill both sides until the fish is no longer translucent and the flesh is soft and flaky.
  5. To remove your fish from the grill, slide your spatula into the space between the skin and flesh. Use a sliding motion and go through the two parts of the fish so that the layer of skin remains on the grate and only the fish is removed from the grill.
  6. Let the fish rest for 3-5 minutes after grilling. This will allow the juices to circulate through the fish, making it much more tender.

Grilling Your Fish with the Skin Off:

  1. To help prevent the fish from sticking to the grill, allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes to bring it down to room temperature.

Then, slather a generous amount of oil on both sides of the fish and add the seasoning and herbs of your choice to your fish before putting it on your cooking grates.
  2. Make sure you grill the rockfish for 8-10 minutes for every inch of the fish. Therefore, if your fish is an inch in thickness, grill on each side for around three to four minutes. You can also grill your fish until the inside reaches a temperature.
  3. Just flip or turn the piece of fish once while grilling. Do not keep turning and flipping it. This will increase the chances of them breaking apart on the grill.
  4. When flipping the piece of fish, do not wrestle the piece of fish off the grill. Be gentle and patient and let the fish naturally release itself from the cooking grate on both sides. When the fish releases itself from the grill, you will know that it is done cooking.
  5. Make sure you give your fish ample resting time to rest once it is off the grill. In most cases, 3-5 minutes is enough time to let the fish relax and allow for the juices to run through your cut of fish, making it softer and more flavorful, and tender.

Tips

  • Always remember to grill with your lid down. Each time you open the lid, you decrease the temperature and extra additional cooking time to your meal.
  • When grilling a whole red rockfish or something similar stuff the cavity of the fish with slices of lemon and fresh herbs to get rid of the fishy taste.
  • Don’t touch or prod the fish when it is grilling, as this will cause it to fall apart.
  • For added flavor marinate the fish in soy sauce and ginger.
  • If you want a more charred flavor without the risk of burning, add a little smoke to your rockfish. When grilling on a charcoal grill, soak wood chips for at least 30 minutes and place them right on your charcoal to boost your fish’s flavor.
  • If grilling on a gas or electric grill, soak the wood chips for around 30 minutes before placing them in a smoker box or pouch and onto the cooking grates.

Grilled Rockfish Recipes

Rockfish tastes fine no matter how it is grilled. You can get away with seasoning your fish with a little salt and pepper before grilling and it will still taste great.

But for a more classic flavor, you can marinate the fish in some crushed garlic, lemon juice, and black pepper. Then brush some browned butter on the fish fillets and set them on the grill.

You can also marinate the whole rockfish in soy sauce, fish sauce, crushed ginger, and a dash of molasses or honey. This Asian take on rockfish is sure to dazzle the taste buds!

Marinating your rockfish in citrus will get rid of the fishy flavor. Paired with garlic and spices like cumin or paprika will make for a fresh and lively tasting grilled meal.

No matter how you marinate or season your fish, serve over slices of lemon and garnish with fresh herbs for the best possible flavor, seasoning with lots of salt and pepper.

How to Smoke Meat on a Gas Grill: The Best Way to Turn Your Gas Grill into a Smoker

Grilling meat is fine and dandy, but what about smoked meats? While everyone can appreciate a summer barbeque with piles of grilled burger patties, hotdogs, and an assortment of ribs and whole chicken.

But the complex and smokey notes of smoked meat is amazing and often overlooked. Besides being delicious, cuts of smoked meat last much longer too. The problem? Not many people own a separate smoker.

But most people do have a regular gas or BBQ grill. And if you want to experiment with smoking meat, you can absolutely get the job done with a gas grill. While the results won’t be the same as with a proper smoker, your meat will still taste just as amazing.

If you’re hesitant to try your hand at this, don’t worry. We will walk you through how to smoke meat on a gas grill. Smoking on a gas grill isn’t difficult, but there are a few things you need to be aware of.

Once you find out how easy it is, you won’t be able to wait to try smoking meat on your own!

Smoking Meat on a Gas Grill: How It Differs from a Smoker

How to Smoke Meat on a Gas Grill

Gas grills are not designed to smoke meat. The spaces around the lid allow the heat and smoke to escape.

While the meat will still taste great, it won’t be the same as those cooked on a smoker. But if you’re in a pinch, you get to make some amazing smoked meats on your grill.

Some gas grills have a smoker of their own, like a propane grill with a smoker box. If your gas grill doesn’t come with a dedicated smoker box, you can buy a heavy-duty stainless-steel smoker box and set it over the cooking grate.

The metal will transfer the heat of your grill to the soaked wood chips piled inside the box. The holes in the lid will direct the fragrant smoke to the meat. Once the wood chips have burned out, you just have to open the lid and add more if needed.

You can even make your own smoke box for grill grates. Place drained wood chips in a foil pan. Cover the pan with aluminum foil, then poke holes in the foil to allow the smoke to escape.

Place the pan directly on the bars over unlit burners. Position the cooking grates in place. Light the grill, with all the burners on high, and close the lid. Find out how to use a smoker box here!

Using a Gas Grill as a Smoker: How to Smoke on a Gas Grill

How to Smoke Meat on a Gas Grill: The Best Way to Turn Your Gas Grill into a Smoker 3

For smoking most meat, it is best to keep the meat at temperatures between 180F and 275F. As a result, the meat is being slowly cooked, while being infused with the signature smoky flavor.

If you’re smoking on a conventional gas grill, this works for many kinds of meats and vegetables. You can even make a whole smoked chicken on a gas grill.

Hot smoking works for any kind of food you’re cooking that you also want to add a smokey flavor to. You can even smoke seasoning like paprika and salt, so there are endless possibilities!

There are two different opinions about wood chips when smoking on a gas grill. Some people prefer dry wood chips, while others favor soaked ones.

Soaked wood chips are a great idea if you are adding them directly to the fire like in a charcoal grill or offset smoker.

This is because this creates steam which turns into smoke and gives the wood chips more longevity. But if you want to make a smoking pouch, using dry chips is a better idea because you will be placing them directly over the burners of your gas grill.

Smoking Meat on a Gas Grill with Chips

Let’s move onto the process of making smoked meat with a grill.

Making the Smoking Pouch:

To make the smoke for your gas grill, you can make your own smoking pouch. This will turn your basic grill into a char broil smoker box.

  1. To do this, start with some aluminum foil. Cut off two big pieces of heavy-duty aluminum foil and layer them flat on your work surface.
  2. Make the pouch by putting two cups of dry wood chips in the middle of your foil. Fold up each of the long sides and crimp them to secure the edges. Next, roll the ends to make a properly sealed wood chip pack.
  3. Poke holes in the pouch. Poking holes in the top of your pouch will allow the heat from the fire to scorch the wood chips in the pouch and make that gorgeous smoke that will be released through the holes and impart a delicious smoked flavor to your meat.

Smoking the Meat:

  1. Place the pouch in your grill. Remove one of the grates on the gas grill, and set the pouch right over one of the burners. Put the grates back, and you’re ready to start smoking.
  2. Fire up your grill. Turn on the burners on your gas grill. If you want a temperature of around 180-275F, there’s a good chance that you will only need to turn on one burner.
  3. The burner will heat the pouch, which in turn circulates the smoke through the grill. It should also provide enough heat to get your grill to the ideal smoking temperature.
  4. Cook your meat. Place the meat on the opposite side of the grill from the smoking pouch and shut the lid.

Use the dome thermometer on your grill to keep track of the temperature. If needed, switch on any additional burners to sustain your desired smoking temperature (often around 225F).
  5. Keep an eye on your grill and your smoking pouch. It generally takes around 45 minutes to burn through all of the wood pellets in the pouch, so keep some extra packs on hand for when the first one burns out.

Continue cooking and smoking your food until it reaches your desired internal temperature for doneness.

Cold Smoking Meat at Home on the Grill

Keep the fire away from the meat. People often use pellet tubes together with their gas grills to direct the smoke towards the meat.

You can even attach some kind of smoke generator to your BBQ gas grill and keep your meat on the cooking grates. Other people hang thin strips of meat over their improvised smoking pouch to allow the smoke to infuse the meat without directly cooking them.

Temperature control is the most important part of cold smoking. You have to keep the temperature below 86F at all times.

This will ensure that the smoke is curing the meat, as opposed to cooking it. You can also use this method to smoke cheese and vegetables.

Any Other Questions?

We’ll address some issues people often have about smoking meat on gas grills.

01. Can You Smoke Meat on a Gas Grill?

As this article has demonstrated, you can easily smoke meat on a gas grill. Whether you choose to construct a makeshift smoker box or use a smoking pouch, you can enjoy the complex flavors of smoky meat without buying a traditional smoker.

02. Does Hot Smoking Preserve Meat?

No hot smoking on a grill only infuses the meat with the smoke. To preserve meat, it has to be cured and dried out so it is safe for consumption.

03. How Long Do I Have to Smoke the Meat Before It is Edible?

The smoker or grill has to maintain 160 degrees or more for at least 30 minutes to safely kill any parasites and pathogens. For a cold smoker, the process needs to be carried out much longer to dry the meat properly.

04. What is the Best Wood for Smoking Meat?

The following kinds of wood give the best flavor when smoking meat. You can even mix them for complex notes and unique flavoring:

  • Oak: This is everyone’s go-to for smoking meat. It will give your food a medium to a strong flavor that is rarely overpowering.
  • Maple: If you like a more subtle flavor with sweeter notes, this is a good option.
  • Hickory: It is the most versatile choice as it can be used to smoke food in many ways. It has a sweet, and umami flavor and hints of bacon that makes it so popular. However, too much will make your meat bitter.
  • Cherry: Cherrywood is mild and fruity. As a result, it pairs really well with other hardwood like hickory and the two flavors balance each out amazingly well.
  • Mesquite: This hardy wood has a stronger, intense flavor. Because of the depth and richness, you only need a little and can mix it with something milder.

Final Verdict

Anyone who is venturing into the world of prepared meats is intrigued by the smoking process. Smoking will take your grilled meat from good to amazing with just a few extra steps.

If you aren’t ready to invest in a fancy smoker, learning how to smoke meat on a gas grill is a wonderful alternative.

Now that you know how it’s done; you can start putting your smoking pouch together. Give it a shot and take your testbeds on a magnificent adventure!

Smoking meat can give you a nearly endless supply of sausages that can last the entire year. Knowing how to grill burgers or BBQ ribs will make you the most incredible person on the block.

Kamado Joe

Most people are delighted with a good smoker like this one. Moreover, barrel smokers are immensely popular as they give you the softest and most tender meat and vegetables.

But what if you want to take things to the next level? If you’ve been on the lookout for the best charcoal grill, we exactly know what you need. And that’s why we’ve decided to talk about that grill in this Kamado Joe review.

This innovative grill has several features that will make grilling a dream. The attractive grill is visually appealing and has top-notch construction and incomparable heat control.

If you never got the appeal of ceramic cookers before, the Kamado Joe BBQ will change your mind.

In our Kamado Joe Classic II review, we will talk about the grill’s design, performance, and the things we liked about it. Let’s get started then, shall we?

Kamado Joe Classic II Review

[amazon box=”B01INNA89S”]

Ever wondered why these grills are called Kamado grills? They are named after the Kamado style of cooking, which started in China and spread to Japan. It uses a clay oven that is fueled by wood or charcoal.

The modern Kamado Joe Classic uses the same concept, and what makes it unique is how they combine low-temperature smoking and high-temperature grilling.

There’s a lot to talk about since the grill gets a lot done. If you’re confused about which grill to get, we’ll help you out in that department. We are going to talk about the different areas regarding this grill.

Grill Design:

Wondering what the grill itself looks like and how it is constructed? The grill has a simple but cohesive and efficient layout.

Overview:

First, this 18-inch grill looks like a typical egg-shaped appliance with stainless steel cooking grates. It is constructed from ceramic, and the red brick color is very eye-catching and striking. Since it is shaped like an egg, the domed head is a little on the long side.

This lid has a thermometer embedded in it, making it easy to keep track of the temperature as you grill. Hate lugging your grill onto your patio?

The Kamado Joe Classic 2 comes with a durable welded metal stand that has to lock back wheels. As a result, it is pretty mobile and convenient.

It also has plastic side shelves that you can use for holding utensils when you cook. You can tuck them down and out of the way when they aren’t needed. Best of all, these shelves even have hooks for hanging grilling tools.

Last but not least, the grill has a rust-resistant aluminum top vent that doesn’t move around when you adjust the lid. Also, the patented air lift hinge reduces the Kamado Joe weight significantly.

In particular, the dome weight is lowered by 96%, allowing you to lift the grill lid with a finger.

The warranty is worth noting as well. The ceramic parts all have a limited lifetime warranty, while the metal ones have a 5-year warranty. Moreover, the heat deflector and thermometer/gasket have a three-year and 1-year warranty, respectively.

Cooking Racks:

The Kamado Joe’s innovative design makes it stand out more than its bright color. We were especially impressed with the ‘Divide and Conquer’ rack design that lets you place the food close to the fire for searing or keep it several inches higher for gentler heat.

Besides this, the multi-level half-moon layout allows you to cook different foods in their way at different temperatures. Because of this, there is no need to remove any Kamado Joe Classic heat deflector–move the racks closer or further from the heat.

Cleaning:

Unlike many other grills, cleanup is unbelievably easy. It features a slide-out drawer which makes the collected ash simple to remove.

This grill differs from other Kamado models as you don’t have to take out the internal components to get rid of the ash.

The drawer collects all the ash, and you remove it and dump out the ashes. Then, slide it back in. There is no need for raking the ashes and creating a mess!

Performance:

The all-star performance of this unit takes things to the next level. First of all, the ceramic body gives it excellent heat retention. Even the firebox that contains the burning coals is ceramic, which holds on to the heat very well.

Also, the Kontrol Tower Top Vent keeps a steady air setting for specific airflow management when opening and closing the dome. Adjusting the top and bottom vents lets you control how much air enters the firebox and, therefore, how hot the grill gets.

The vents also work together in sync. The bottom vent changes the temperature dramatically, while the top vent is for smaller temperature adjustments.

But the best thing about this Kamado Joe grill? It uses much less charcoal, as the ceramic retains heat and maintains the necessary temperature needed for grilling.

For example, when grilling racks of ribs at 250-degrees, you can have them ready in 4 hours without adding more charcoal. You might even have enough fuel left over to give the meat a good char.

The high temperature is excellent for caramelizing and browning the surface of your meat and veggies without drying them out. You can use it for grilling and BBQs at high temperatures with the top vents fully open.

It makes the grill pretty versatile since you can grill pizzas and end up with a crispy, blistered bottom and melted gooey cheese on top.

Furthermore, the divide and conquer mechanism makes it ideal for cooking steaks as well.

You can sear the steaks on the hot side of the grill and then move them to the side with the heat deflector to finish cooking in indirect heat. Your steak will be perfectly cooked and tender!

As the grill has a large cooking area, you can cook multiple things at the same time. It cuts down on the overall cooking time as you can grill vegetables and seafood along with your steaks or ribs. However, it is best to grill one pizza at a time.

Kamado Joe cooking proves to be an easy and hassle-free affair. The powder-coated aluminum vents are mold and rainproof so that you can use them in extreme temperatures without any effect on the grilling process since they can smoke things at a mild 225F and sear at a crispy hot temperature of 750F.

Tired of your firebox misbehaving? Kamado Joe grill reviews are generally full of praise for the advanced multi-panel firebox as it has a six-piece design. It makes it harder for the charcoal to break off when grilling and increases overall efficiency.

This grill comes with all the essentials you will need for smoking and BBQs. These are all the different parts that come with the Kamado Joe II:

Why We Recommend It:

This grill is worth every penny because of how reliable it is. The solid construction means that you won’t ever have to worry about the grill falling apart. On top of that, the warranty makes sure that any setbacks are corrected.

Besides this, the half-moon racks and the ‘Divide and Conquer’ system make grilling easy and quick. The Kamado Joe uses much less fuel than similar grills, preserving charcoal in the long run.

But the charms of the grill go beyond that. It allows you to prep ribs and steaks as usual, as well as searing burgers and even slow-cooking meats.

Buying the Kamado Joe: What You Need to Know

Considering getting yourself a Kamado Joe II? There are a couple of things you need to think about first.

Size:

The Kamado Joe II is 18 inches in diameter. This one is large enough for most people, and it is enough to cook multiple steaks and burgers simultaneously. Besides this, it is sufficient space for entire grilling chickens and large fish.

However, if you don’t have much room, you might prefer the Joe Jr, just 13.5 inches and a lot more petite. On the other hand, the Big Joe is a better option if you need something larger for grilling, especially if you plan on searing or smoking bigger cuts of meat.

Material:

Ceramic is the best material for kamado grills. It is because of its excellent heat retention, sturdiness, and it uses up less charcoal.

Best of all, it won’t rust and can withstand both cold and burning heat. However, this does mean that the grill is rather heavy.

Price:

As far as quality grills go, the Kamado Joe II is middle-range, leaning towards rather expensive. However, since it works so well and is very sturdy, the unit pays for itself.

You won’t need another grill for years. Also, the top-notch performance more than makes up for the price of the grill!

Using the Kamado Joe Grill

Not sure how to set up and use the Kamado Joe? While it is easy to get this grill up and running, it does require a bit of elbow grease and patience.

Unpacking the Grill:

  1. Cut the plastic bands and then get rid of the top and side panels of the shipping container.
  2. After that, carefully remove the top piece of the grill cart and cut away or tear the plastic from the top of the grill.
  3. Open the dome of the grill and remove the parts from the inside of the grill. Be sure to handle the internal ceramic components with care.

Assembling Your Kamado Joe Grill and Cart:

  • After taking out the internal components from inside the grill, carefully lift the grill out of the container or box and set it aside. It is the hardest part for most people.
  • Since this grill is pretty heavy, it is recommended that two people perform this task. Do not try to lift the grill by its side shelf tabs. Instead, use the back hinge and the front lower vent opening as your lifting points.
  • Next, remove the plastic wrapping from the grill cart base.
  • After this, lock the casters on the bottom portion of the grill cart.
  • Assemble the two pieces of the grill cart with the stainless-steel screws that are included. You will find these screws attached with tape and plastic on the bottom section of the cart.
  • With the same lifting technique used before, lift the grill facing the front of the cart. This side of the cart is the one with the two locking casters.

Internal Assembly:

  1. Open the dome and position the Slide-Out Ash Drawer in the bottom of the grill, so the handle aligns with the lower vent opening.
  2. Place the base of the FireBox over the Slide-Out Ash Drawer, aligning the opening of the base with the ash drawer handle.
  3.  Set the Cast Iron Fire Grate on top of the base. Note: the ribbed side of the fire grate should face downward.
  4.  Begin building the FireBox Walls. Place each piece on top of the FireBox Base. Note that the parts will lean against the inner wall of the base of the grill.
  5. Using the hole in each piece, pull towards the center to fit under the outer rim of the Stainless-Steel Ring. Repeat the step for each piece until FireBox is secure.
  6.  Place the Divide & Conquer rack on top of the Stainless-Steel Ring. Remember that the flexible cooking system rack should fit along the indents of the ring.

Maintaining & Cleaning Tips Your Kamado Joe Grill

The best way to give your grill a long life is to keep it clean and maintain it after every use. The good news is that the best way to clean the Kamado Joe is to get it nice and toasty and burn everything off. It’s kind of like a self-cleaning oven.

The same applies to the stainless-steel grill grates, as well as the ceramic heat deflector. Let them heat up in the grill for 15 to 20 minutes at 600F.

Once that’s done, close the vents and allow them to cool down. Any food or residue stuck to the grill will turn to ash, making it easy to clean off with a brush.

This procedure also works for removing mold. However, storing the grill in a clean and dry place will prevent mold from forming in the first place. Like we said, this low-maintenance grill is easy to clean, which makes it an excellent choice for the lazy cook!

  • Weight: 110 pounds
  • Manufacturer: Weber

Looking for a grill that will be there with you for the long haul? This heavy-duty gas grill has a 10-year guarantee and will function smoothly for decades without giving you any trouble.

This impressive grill boasts a GS4 grilling system that will give your food a nice crispy sear and lovely char marks that will captivate you (and your stomach). It also has 3 infinity ignition burners and a fantastic grease management system.

The grilling grates have porcelain-coated Flavorizer Bars which keep them from getting rusted. The three burners also let you grill a lot of food at the same time. This, along with the large, 529-sq. inch cooking space lets you grill burgers, steaks, ribs, and veggies all at once.

Also, the grill itself has an attractive, open cart design that is remarkably eye-catching. There are also six large hanging hooks and two wheels, as well as a built-in thermometer.

Why We Recommend It:

Weber is known for making splendid grills, and this one is no different. The design is attractive, the cart is sturdy, and it performs well. The three burners provide a total of 30,000 BTUs of power which heats the grill up to 500 degrees in just a few minutes evenly across the board.

The cart grill also has two side tables that give you plenty of space for seasoning, condiments, and cooking tools. You can also use the hanging hooks to keep your tongs and spatulas out of the way when not in use.

Pros:

  • Even heat distribution on the grilling surface.
  • Excellent and durable construction.
  • Solid grease management system.
  • Easy to assemble and clean.

Cons:

  • Rather expensive for a grill with 3 burners.

Want a superbly designed grill that cooks amazingly well? This Fuego grill will serve you smokey, charred meat that you won’t forget any time soon, making it one of the top grills under 500 dollars.

If you’re sick of your grill’s paint peeling away after a couple of uses, worry not. This one has a porcelain enamel lid which prevents the paint from bubbling or peeling. It has a total grilling surface area of 525 square inches. You can even grill quarter-pound burgers at once!

The structure of the grill is pretty compact, which is perfect for smaller patios and backyards. It also takes just 30 minutes to assemble, even for a newbie!

Moreover, it heats up pretty quickly, reaching 500F in just 5 minutes. The dual-burner system is great as it heats the grill surface evenly. You can also crank up the heat to 650F for searing steaks and seafood.

We really liked this grill for its smart design and small footprint. Not everyone has a huge patio and this one is perfect for people with less space. Putting it together is very easy and you can have the grill up and running in just half an hour.

The two burners with their 26,500 BTU heat the grill through evenly and quickly. Although the temperature isn’t as hot as a charcoal grill, it is still hot enough to sear your meat. Furthermore, the grill hood opens at a 45-degree angle, preventing burns and accidents.

Each cooking area is 292 sq. inches each, making this combo great for cooking outdoors. It has a large size but is still portable with quick assembly. The automatic ignition makes cooking easier and the side tables provide ample prepping space.

It also has to fold down legs for easy storage and locking casters that make it easier to move around. The convenient grease management system prevents your deck or yard from getting dirty.

Why We Recommend It:

We loved this combo because it gives you the convenience of having a grill and a griddle in one unit. The portability was also an important factor as you can take it with you on prolonged road trips or picnics.

Many grills make a mess as they have a lot of grease or water leaking from the unit. But the integrated grease management system makes cleanup way easier. Once you are done using it, you can fold it up and put it away for storage.

Pros:

  • Versatile for cooking.
  • Built-in grease management system.
  • Large, yet portable.
  • Easy assembly and cleanup.

Cons:

  • The Grill section doesn’t have a lid.

Getting the Best Gas Grill under $500: A Buying Guide

Now that you are acquainted with the best gas grills out there, you need to narrow down the specifics. This will allow you to get a grill that is compatible with your needs. Here’s what you need to consider beforehand:

Cooking Area:

Different grills have different surface areas for cooking. This will depend on how many people you generally have to grill.

If you like to keep your grilling sessions smaller, you’re better of with something a little smaller, like the Char-Broil 463673519 2-Burner Cabinet Gas Grill or the Weber 49010001 3-Burner Natural Gas Grill which is pretty average in terms of cooking space.

However, if you need something larger and need to cook for lots of people, you should get something like the Royal Gourmet Cabinet Propane Gas Grill SG6002 or Royal Gourmet GB8000 Event Gas Grill.

Total Number of Burners:

Like the cooking area, the number of burners in your grill is related to how many people you are cooking for. If you tend to grill smaller portions, a 2 or 3-burner like the Weber 49010001 3-Burner Natural Gas Grill or Fuego F24C Professional Propane Gas Grill are both great options.

If you want something a bit stronger, a 4-burner grill is a good idea. On the other hand, a 6 or 8-burner grill like the Royal Gourmet Cabinet Propane Gas Grill SG6002 and Royal Gourmet GB8000 Event Gas Grill is best for very large events and catering.

Additional Accessories/Tools:

Some grills have things like side burners, folding tables, and shelves that make your grilling experience a little easier. If you want a little help while you grill, get something like the Char-Broil 463377319 4-Burner Cart-Style Liquid Propane Gas Grill and the Char-Broil 463673519 2-Burner Cabinet Gas Grill are both great options.

But if you want a plain grill with nothing else attached to it, you will like the Coleman 285 RoadTrip  Portable Stand-Up Propane Grill.

FAQ

Got more questions about gas grills and how they work? We’ve answered some of the questions people tend to have about using these sorts of grills.

01. How Long Does a Gas Grill Keep Working?

A gas grill’s lifespan depends on the quality of materials it was made with. How well it is stored and how frequently it is used will also determine its lifespan.

Regular grill cleaning and storing it in a dry place is a vital part of ownership that can extend your gas grill’s life for years. A grill that is used properly and well-maintained can last for 10 years without any major issues.

02. How are Gas Grills Different from Charcoal Grills?

The main differences between the two are that the gas grill takes less time to cook the food when compared to charcoal grills. Charcoal grills take a lot longer to heat up and rely on a slow-cooking method.

Moreover, charcoal grills infuse the food with a smoky flavor that you will not get with a gas grill.

03. How Should I Clean My Gas Grill Grates?

After your grill has cooled, lightly scrub your grates and soak them in hot, soapy water. Then, heat your grill and allow any of the food stuck to the grates to get burnt. Most of the charred remains will fall off.

Use a good grill brush to scrape off any of the residue left on your grates.

04. Can I Remove Rust from My Grill Grates?

First, gently brush your grill grates with a soft brush to remove as much rust as possible. Put your grate on your gas grill barbecue and cover your grates with baking soda.

Then, start your grill. Once heated, the baking soda will begin to bubble and remove the rust. After the bubbling starts to slow down, turn off your grill and let the grates cool down. Rinse it and dry completely before storing it somewhere without moisture or humidity.

To End

Gas grills are a great way to have a cookout on short notice. With the best gas grills under $500, you will be able to use your grill exactly as you would a higher-end one. They are perfect for grilling and searing meat, seafood, and vegetables.

Choosing the right gas grill will give you a faithful grilling companion with great value for your money. Besides making amazing food, your gas grill will also make lots of wonderful memories and let you spend some quality time with your favorite people.

So why not order the gas grill you want today?

Buying Guide

Now that you have gotten an overview of the best boat grills out there, you might be really confused about which one to pick.

Don’t worry, we have prepared an in-depth guide for you. Here you will find all the things you need to focus on while buying a boat grill.

What’s Your Boat Type?

This is the first thing you need to focus on. Not all boat grills fit the same type of boat. The ideal place for a boat grill would be a boathouse, which let’s be honest none of us have.

The next best thing would be to install the grill on a pontoon boat. Pontoon boats are great for casual hangouts with friends or a small family party.

If you have a pontoon boat, having a grill is kind of mandatory! Cuisinart Grill Modified for Pontoon Boat is a good one to try.

Another great boat would be our good old fashioned fishing boats. A 30-feet or larger fishing boat has enough room for a decent-sized boat grill.

Boats that shouldn’t have any grills are sailboats and speed boats as they are riskier and can cause a fire hazard.

Mounted vs Tabletop:

Do you want a mounted boat grill that will be set with the boat railing? Or do you want a convenient option that can be placed anywhere to cook?

This is a personal choice. Everyone has a different opinion on it. Make sure the one you are buying has the feature you are looking for.

We think it’s smarter to go for grills that can do both even if it costs a few extra bucks. Check out  Flame King RV Or Trailer Mounted BBQ for dual style.

Types of Fuels:

Choosing the right types of fuel is important as this is the heart of the grill. There are three main types of grills: gas, charcoal, and electric.

Propane/ Gas:

In our experience, gas grills are the most common and easy types of grills available. They are so popular because they have numerous advantages.

Gas grills are fast, efficient, and really affordable. You can find gas canisters anywhere you go. They are low maintenance and comparatively safer in harsh environments.

Our top pick for gas grill is NOMADIQ Portable Propane Gas Grill.

The only downside would be, you don’t get the signature charred  BBQ smokiness with a gas burner.

Charcoal:

If you are only judging by taste and flavor, nothing can beat charcoal grills.

Charcoal grills are the traditional way of cooking grilled meat. It adds a delicious smokiness to the meal while keeping it tender and light. You can’t get this flavor in any other way.

For a great charred taste check out Kuuma 58110 Stow N Go Charcoal Grill.

The obvious downside is, you have to carry the charcoal with you which adds a significant amount of weight.

Charcoal grills are also hard to maintain and temperature control. If you are a newbie then this is not for you. You also can’t use charcoal grills in wet environments.

Electric:

This is a really convenient type of grill if you have electricity on board. You don’t need any additional fuels to buy and it takes zero preparations.

A popular and durable choice is George Foreman 5-Serving Multi-Plate Evolve Grill System.

The only issue is, most boats do not come with electricity. Also, it’s considerably more expensive to cook on an electric grill than a gas one.

Materials:

Boat grills need to be made with a material that can handle the harsh weather and coastal air. SO buying a durable one is necessary.

Stainless Steel:

Stainless steel is so far the most popular and durable material for boat grills. The 300 series in particular handles harsh environments really well.

Coastal air contains much more salt than normal air. Salt destroys most metals and creates rust. Rust is basically cancer for metals. Stainless steel is rust free thus perfect for a boat.

Magma Products, Marine Kettle 3 is a solid stainless steel option. It is also our top pick!

Aluminum:

Another option that some companies use is aluminum. Aluminum has a bad reputation for discoloration and rust.

However, there are some brands that make a corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy that is as good as stainless steel.

Aluminum is also lighter than stainless steel. So if you buy an aluminum grill, make sure it’s corrosion-resistant otherwise, don’t buy it.

Check out Char-Broil Grill2Go TRU-Infrared Liquid Propane Gas Grill.

Portability:

As you want to travel everywhere with your boat grill, it needs to be light and easy to pack. So look for foldable legs with padded handles or straps for easy transportation.

Smaller grills have a smaller cooking surface and that’s something you have to accept.

We have added great options with a bigger cooking area but obviously a portable grill won’t have the same grilling space as a standard backyard one

Cuisinart Petit Gourmet Gas Grill is a good choice as it has extendable legs for easy setup.

Do not buy a big grill as you will have a hard time enjoying your trip with it.

Warranty:

Always check for warranties before you purchase a product. As good boat grills are not cheap, you want to use it for a longer time.

A warranty simply puts our minds at ease. If anything goes wrong, you can simply contact the manufacturer and they will fix it for you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

01. Are boat grills different from normal grills?

Boat grills are basically a smaller, more compact version of a standard backyard grill. You can travel with it anywhere to enjoy a delicious juicy barbecue.

Boat grills come with mount brackets that you can attach to your boat railing for convenient cooking. They are designed to handle harsh weather changes and rough transport. So they are more durable than average grills.

Boat grills are also energy efficient due to their smaller size. You don’t need that much fuel to cook for 5-6 people.

Their cooking surface, obviously, is much smaller than standard grills. But compared to other portable grills, they have more functions and features.

02. Is it legal to grill on a boat?

Yes it is. But only if you follow safety rules to not create any fire hazards. The most important thing is to put your grill far away from clothes, wood, or anything that can cause a fire.

Another important thing is to properly mount your grill to the surface or railing. If you decide to put in on a table, you have to screw it properly so that it doesn’t move.

If you try to cook fish, make sure the state where you are fishing does not have any prohibitions against certain fish species.

If any coast guards find you with the exception to these rules, you will get into some serious troubles. So make sure to grill safely.

03. Can a portable grill cook for 5/6 people?

The time is gone when portable grills meant cooking only two chicken wings at a time. Most modern boat grills come with plenty of cooking surface and high heat fuel system.

You can easily cook for up to 4-5 people with standard boat grills. If you go for a bigger size, you might be able to cook for more than 6 people.

Portable boat grills come with precise temperature control, dual gas chamber, air shields and so much more. You can have a barbecue party with your friends and family and enjoy a great time together!

04. Is it safe to grill on a boat?

With modern grills that are specifically designed for boats, it is completely safe to have some delicious barbecue without any worry.

Barbecue grills are made out of sturdy and strong materials that can last years without even a scratch. You then mount the grill with strong-grip screws to the railing of the boat or a fixed table.

There is no way your grill could move while you are using it. So there is no fear of any accidents.

One thing you have to make sure is to not grill your food on any wooden surface. The good thing is, no boats have wooden furniture or decks anymore. So it is totally safe to grill on a boat.

05. What can you grill on a boat?

You can grill basically anything on a boat. From juicy chicken wings to beef ribs and pork belly, you can have fun with your menu. You’re forgetting the obvious thing, fishes.

If you plan to go fishing with your buddies, you can enjoy fresh barbecue fish on the spot with your boat grill. It’s so convenient especially if you like to fish quite often.

You can make steaks, kebabs, pork chops, hamburgers, hot dogs, seafood, shrimps and so many more!

Conclusion

A boat grill can truly add so much joy and fun to your life. Finding the best boat grill for you, however, is not so fun.

Hopefully, with our curated list and guide we have managed to help you. We have selected the best options with high functionality and portability.

Now that you have all the information you need, hurry up and pick a grill to start enjoying mouthwatering dishes anywhere you want to travel to!

Lion Grill Review: The Sturdiest Gas Grill You Can Buy

The American Cookbook Author Katie Lee once said, “The grill is the summer equivalent of a fireplace; everyone gravitates to it.”

Beautiful and on point, only if your outdoor grill is worth the money and satisfaction.

Hosting grand birthday bashes with bbq, experimenting with the Rotisserie style of cooking sounds fun. Cuddling up around an outdoor grill to enjoy smoked salmon, sure sounds like something to gravitate to.

The catch, however, is to pair up with a versatile, reliable, and comfortable gas grill without breaking the bank.

Time and again, the Boat Basin Cafe has scouted out to find you the perfect grill and grill accessories.

The venture continues and here we are, checking out the 32-inch gas grill from the reliable name, Lion Premium Grills.

So, brace yourself for everything you want to know about the L75623 32-inch stainless steel unit in today’s Lion Grill review!

What the Lion 32-inch Gas Grill is All about

[amazon box=”B0070U0LTI”]

The L75623 is stainless steel, natural-gas-powered commercial-grade grill weighing about 170 pounds.

Boasting a stylish and sleek look, this 32-inch model comes with versatile features plus handy accessories to grace your backyard.

Let’s explore this a little closer.

Built and Craftsmanship:

The entire unit is constructed using 304 16-gauge commercial grade stainless steel. We tested it, so you can rest assured.

This not only gives your Lion Grill its sleek appearance but also secures its longevity and premium performance.

The sheet metal gives a solid feel and each individual grate is sturdily crafted to withstand high heat and hold up virtually any temperature.

Not only the body and the grills though, the ‘inner parts’ such as the flame tamers and all the accessories are also crafted out of the same premium materials.

You can upgrade your unit by purchasing ceramic flame tamers separately, but we felt that the tamers that you get by default are sufficient to distribute even heat throughout the cooking area.

This gas grill has four burners made of thick cast stainless steel. Their upper surfaces are roof-shaped. This helps the burners to steer clear of debris.

Overall, the craftsmanship is comparable with most higher-end grills and better than any unit with similar specifications and price tag.

Parts and Accessories:

The main piece or loadstone of this unit is the 32-inch gas grill (duh!) that offers about 830 square inches of cooking area. Then there are the handy accessories and the freebies.

Powered by natural gas, this outdoor grill comes to life using the push to turn knobs. There are four burners generating a tremendous amount of heat at a time. 75000 BTUs to be exact.

Getting the hang of its temperature settings involves a learning curve. But that’s the case with any new grill you bring home, so we are not counting it as a negative.

Plus there’s an easy read hood-mounted thermometer that makes life easy. We sort of took a shine on the thermometer because we think it makes the Lion Gas Grill look more attractive as well.

The grill grates can heat up to a wide range of temperatures and hold it steady throughout the cooking process. An additional warming rack keeps the sides warm when you are at it.

The grill has two built-in interior lights which are lifesavers, especially during night time outdoor grilling.

The Lion Gas Grill is thoughtful when it comes to the accessories.

If you are a fan of flat-top griddles and love to begin your day with a crispy bacon breakfast, Lion has you covered. The unit comes with a stainless steel griddle to add versatility to its cooking surface.

For spit roasters and fans of the rotisserie style of cooking this 32-inch gas grill comes with an infrared complete rotisserie setup. Be it cooking whole chickens or spit roasting fishes and shrimps, the Lion Rotisserie grill can make everything happen.

That’s not all. The Lion Gas Grill L75623 also includes a stainless steel smoker box for all those fine days of smoked cheese cravings.

When it comes to adding handy accessories to your purchase, Lion Gas Grills are generous and we have to give the manufacturer credit for this. Overall, many lion gas grill reviews opine that this is a complete outdoor grilling solution.

Let’s move on to the freebie – the fabric grill cover. Honestly, this turned out to be much better than we expected. The fabric is high-quality with a firm elastic to hold it in place. This definitely doesn’t look like something that you get as a complimentary.

Power and Performance:

The 32-inch gas grill by Lion is equipped with 4 stainless steel cast burners. Together, they generate 75000 BTUs. That’s more than 90 BTUs worth of heat per square inch of the cooking area.

The sheet metal grates evenly distribute this heat throughout, including the edges. With 100% of its cooking area being operational, there is not a single inch of dead space on the 830 square inches of grates.

These grates retain this heat throughout your cooking spree.

Our first venture with the Lion gas grill resulted in perfectly grilled lemon pepper chicken kebabs with some neat markings on them.

Then we took two of the grills off to replace them with the flat-top griddle accessory. We did some neat cooking, frying bacon, and sauteeing some veggies.

This is a great advantage of owning the Lion Gas Grill.

You get to do your fair share of flat top grilling without having to buy a separate griddle.  For people who have a small backyard or limited space for their kitchen gears, this is a lifesaver.

For our rotisserie dinner, we grilled whole chicken at a steady temperature maintained at 375 ℉.

The smoker box is well made with effective hole distribution. Our smoked cheese turned out to be perfectly flavored with our favorite hickory.

Throughout the cooking process, the grill performed insanely well.

The only hitch on the way is that the knobs tend to get hot, especially when it operates at 500 ℉ for a while.

We figured that it’s less of a design flaw and more of an issue with the ventilation. Try to keep your Lion Grill at a well-aired space to avoid this.

One Lion User on Amazon did just that.

In a Lion Premium Grills review, the user says that he has been using this grill since 2015 and cooked over 1000 meals by now. He never came across any overheated knob except this one time, that too, after years of using this machine.

However, this does not stop him from believing that this is so far his best gas grill.

Installation and Maintenance:

The Lion Premium 32’’ Gas Grill is a mammoth of a machine that weighs about 170 pounds. Ergo, it’s better to have a friend or two over when you are installing this gear.

Weight apart, everything else in the installation process is smooth and easy.

When it comes to maintenance, all the models of the Lion Gas Grills are sculpted out to be true winners.

There’s a full-width grease pan in place that collects all the oils and debris. Since everything directly dumps on the grease pan, cleaning this gas grill is a no brainer.

The replacement parts are much cheaper than the ones from the contemporary brands (not that you’ll need these often though). So, you can count on low-cost maintenance.

Lion Premium Gas Grills come with a lifetime warranty on the cast burners and various parts to keep you covered.

Pros of Lion Gas Grill:

  • High quality 304 stainless steel construction
  • Well-built, sturdy unit
  • 75000 BTUs evenly distributes over 830 inches of grill area
  • Great value for money
  • Extremely durable and reliable
  • Adjustable warming rack adds additional surface to keep the sides nice and warm

Cons of Lion Gas Grill:

  • The knobs may overheat

Lion Grill Review: What You Need to Know

[amazon box=”B0070U0LTI”]

Before you set out to bring home your own Lion Gas Grill, there are a few things that you must know about.

The Useable Cooking Surface is Not Exactly 32 inches:

Although the specifications everywhere describe the L75623 as a 32-inch grill, the usable cooking surface is a little above 30 inches.

It’s best to measure your cutout size and then decide whether this model suits you. The recommended cutout size for Lion 32’’ gas grill is 31 inches.

The installation instructions are available online. Do give it a go before making your purchase.

You Need to Have a Power Outlet Nearby to Use The Rotisserie Burner:

The infrared Rotisserie kit is powered electrically. Ergo, to use this function, make sure that your grill is stationed near a power outlet.

There is a Good Warranty Coverage in Place:

The deal with the warranty tends to get a bit confusing. So, here’s how Lion Gas Grill’s warranty looks like, straight from the manual:

  • Cast Stainless Burner: Lifetime
  • Stainless Steel Frame, Housing: Lifetime
  • Stainless Steel Cooking Grids: Lifetime
  • Stainless Steel Flame Tamer: 3 Years
  • Gas Valves and all other parts and components: 1 Year

How to Use the Lion Grill?

Getting started with the Lion Gas Grill is fairly easy. If you are new to the world of propane fuelled gas grill, here’s how you get started.

Step 1: The first step is to lift the lid of the grill. Never start otherwise if you don’t want gas to build up.

Step 2: Open the gas valve on the propane tank by turning it counterclockwise.

Step 3: Your Lion gas grill has an ignitor button so you won’t need to light it up manually. Turn the burners all the way up. Then push the ignitor button.

Step 4: Turn on the other burners and close the lid to preheat your device.

Step 5: Keep a weather eye on the large Lion thermometer until it reaches 500-550°.

Step 6: Now you are ready to cook. You can adjust the temperature along the way.

Step 7: When you are done cooking, turn the burners off. Close the gas valve on the propane tank by turning it clockwise until it stops rotating.

This is the basis of how to use the Lion Grill. You can do various other stuff with this. For instance, use the built-in lights, do some flat-top cooking, experiment with the rotisserie burner, and so on.

Maintaining & Cleaning Tips for a Lion Grill

To maximize the longevity of your gas grill, keeping it spick a span is the best plan. Also, some good habits can save you from a lot of hassle while keeping your grill in a good shape.

Here are some grilling wisdom and tips that we simply cannot bear not sharing with you.

Always Open The Hood/Lid before Lighting Your Lion Gas Grill:

Yes, we know we have mentioned this already. But it’s so important that we felt this is worth repeating. This saves you from gas building up and causing a kaboom!

Clean the Grill Grates When It’s Still Warm:

The smoothest way to clean your grill is to do it just after the cooking session. Any stuck-on food is easier to remove when the grates are still hot.

But remember, we said clean them when warm, not hot. So, don’t try this just after turning the knobs off.

Use a Grill Brush, Yes You Need One!:

Grill brushes work! And the best type for your Lion Gas Grill is a wire brush since the grates are made of steel.

For porcelain grates though, nylon brushes are more suitable.

Wipe Grates Using an Oiled Paper Towel:

This removes any bristles on your grill grates. A blotch of oil on a paper towel, and wipe every grate with it.

The Flame Tamers Need Your Attention Too:

It’s a good idea to wash the flame tamers using soapy water and a scouring pad.

Keep Some Toothpicks:

If your burner is giving out yellow and uneven flames, this means that the tubes are jammed. Use a toothpick to clear the holes of the tube.

Clean the Bottom Regularly:

This prevents flare-ups. Scrape out the built-up debris and clean with soapy water.

Don’t Ignore the Drip Pan:

The Lion Gas Grill offers a full width, roomy drip pan. But that doesn’t mean you should let it go on collecting debris and only clean it when it overflows.

Clean the drip pan after every use. Wash it with soapy water.

Make Safety a Priority:

Protect your hands with grill gloves. Make sure that children and pets steer clear of the exposed grills. And do check for gas leakage once a while.

Here’s how you do it:

  • Pour some dishwashing liquid into a jar of water.
  • Turn propane on and sponge the solution over the hose and connections.
  • If you see any bubbles forming anywhere, you have a leak there.
  • No bubbling? Great!

FAQs on The Lion Gas Grill and Their Answers

Here are the most frequently asked questions about the Lion Gas Grills. Skim through to get your queries answered.

01. How Long is the Warranty for the Burners?

Lion offers a lifetime warranty on the burners. The steel frame, cooking grids, and housing are also secured by a lifetime warranty.

The flame tamers are secured for 3 years while other components are covered for 1 year.

02. Should I Clean My Grill after Every Use?

You should carry out a simple grill cleaning after every use. Grab your grill brush and brush off the particles stuck to the grates when they are still warm.

03. How Often Should I Clean My Gas Grill?

If you are an avid griller,  we suggest that you deep clean your BBQ grill every 6 months.

This includes cleaning most of the parts including the grates, the flame tamers, and the bottom.

While you are at it, you should check the propane tank and hose for leakage and the overall unit for broken or vulnerable parts.

04. Does Fire Kill Bacteria on a Grill?

Yes! Grills use fire and fire kills bacteria.

05. Is it Okay if I Cook on a Rusty Grill?

No, it’s not.

Minor surface rust is probably okay, but a grill with loose rust is not safe.

Loose rust tends to stick with food. While ingesting this once or twice isn’t dangerous, prolonged exposure to this could harm your digestive system.

Final Verdict

“Not just gimmicks, solid grill with strong and even heat.” – Lion Grill User on Amazon.

The Lion Premium Grills 32’’ gas grill is built tough. This is hard-core enough to give you a consistent performance for years.

Lion bbq grills reviews always chime about its quality construction. Just like one user said, you get strong and even heat and no gimmicks.

A full-width grease pan coupled with an intelligent design makes this grill easy to clean. Inexpensive replacement parts bring your maintenance cost down.

We loved working with the 32’’ natural gas grill by Lion.

Enjoying delicious grilled food with family and loved ones is one of those pleasures we all have in common.

Whether it’s caramelized beef brisket or soft and juicy pulled pork that melts in your mouth, there isn’t a single person who doesn’t love barbecue.

The struggle is to make BBQ without too many technical hassles on the way. To make home-grilling enjoyable and easy, Weber has designed their Genesis II with upgraded and advanced features.

In this Weber Genesis e330 review, we will take a closer look at this gas grill to see what the hype is all about!

Weber Genesis II E-330 LP Grill Review

[amazon box=”B07H622NSQ”]

Weber Genesis II E330 is an all-around great choice for any barbecue lovers. It comes with a lot of new things that alleviate the flavors and taste of each meat.

Let’s see what makes Weber e33o such a great all-time classic choice in the grilling community.

Key Features:

Superior Heat Retention:

This gorgeous grill comes with a porcelain-enameled lid that retains heat and moisture once you lock it.

One of the key things about making perfectly grilled meat is its moisture level. No one wants to enjoy a dry brisket. We love barbecue beef ribs or chicken wings because they melt in your mouth.

Using a grill like this would ensure that your food is getting the maximum heat retention thus cooking faster. The faster it cooks, the juicier the meat stays!

Even-Heat Distribution:

Hot spots are a really tricky and annoying thing about grilling. This means one area of the grill is twice as hot and tends to overcook or burn the food if you put anything directly on top of it.

But his Weber genesis E330 grill has cast-iron grates, which has better heat absorption abilities than stainless steel ones.

It also has a porcelain-enameled coating which makes it non-stick and provides even heat distribution. Porcelain is a premium coating that’s famous for its even cooking surface.

So you can grill without having to worry about burning your food.

Practical Grill Design:

This multifunctional and practical grill comes with a side burner that is perfect for making any side dishes you want.

You don’t have to wait for the main dish to be done in order to make your veggies. The side burner has an excellent heat control system.

Whether you want to sauté some green veggies and mushrooms on the side or you want to simmer your favorite BBQ sauce, this side burner is perfect for that.

Easy Controls with Durable Construction:

So this Weber Genesis II grill comes with a sear station that’s designed for intense heating for a quick sear on your favorite steaks or chops.

It also comes with an open-cart design that provides easy accessibility for all of your cooking utensils.

The easy-to-read fuel gauge is located next to the gas tank. This means you can check how much fuel you have left without much effort.

Buying the Weber Genesis Gas Grill: What You Need to Know

Now that you have a clear idea of what makes this Genesis II grill so popular, there are some things you should know about buying gas grills

There are a few indicators of a good gas grill, and you should always look for them before choosing one.

Space:

Do you have a really small backyard? Or maybe you don’t have one.

Maybe your space has both a balcony and a giant garden area. Whatever your space looks like, it is important to consider the size of your home before buying a gas grill.

If you have limited space then it is better to buy something portable and lightweight. You can check out our Best Indoor Grills list to find out more about that.

This Weber E330, however, is 47” height and 59” width, making it more suitable for any small to large backyards.

If you like to enjoy grilling with your family and friends, having a Weber II will bring so much joy into your life.

Large Cooking Surface:

The Weber Genesis e330 comes with a humble cooking surface of 513 square inches making it perfect for family nights.

You can make 20 hamburgers simultaneously with extra room for vegetables! Imagine how convenient that would be for late-night parties or Sunday chillouts with your friends and family.

The 10-inch height lid makes it really convenient if you are planning to slow cook larger chunks of meat or for Texas-style barbeque!

High-Temperature Setting:

The Weber Genesis II e330 comes with a GS4 high-performance grilling system. This means you can cook at a really high temperature without having to worry about any hotspots.

The sear station is perfect for charring your stakes or lamb chops seconds before serving.

Don’t even get me started on the flavors you get on this gas grill. The meat is always juicy and filled with rich smoky barbecue flavors.

Movability:

Freestanding gas grills are not meant to move around too much. They are usually designed to be set in a fixed place.

Nonetheless, it is important for a grill to have the option to easily move around when necessary. Especially for an outdoor option, you need to maneuver it in order to properly clean it.

The Weber e330 comes with two small wheels and two large ones (on the burner side) for easy maneuvering.

You can easily move it around whichever direction you want. The stainless steel structure makes it super sturdy without being too heavy. So it’s a win-win situation!

Durability:

Since you are going to barbecue all the time in every weather possible, you need something that will hold its shape over the years.

Weber Genesis II e330 gas grill is famous for its durable construction and solidly built body. The stainless steel is very sturdy. It retains heat more than any other type of material.

The stainless steel exterior not only is heavy-duty but also adds a sleek and modern look to your backyard. It is also really easy to clean and wash.

Warranty:

Just to show you how much Weber believed in the durability of their grill, they provide a 10-year long warranty on it!

Weber has the best warranty program out of all the grill brands out there. This Genesis II model comes with a 10-year long warranty on all components excluding normal wear and tear.

So investing is something like this means the assurance of reliability and high quality.

How to Use Weber Genesis E330 Grill

After you receive your package, the first thing you’d want to do is get started on making some delicious pork chops! But before that, you need to properly set your Weber Genesis e330 up.

Setting up:

There are four simple steps in setting up your Weber gas grill:

  1. Open the lid before you light up your gas grill. This prevents unlit gas fumes to gather in the cooking box.
  2. Slowly open the propane tank valve and wait a few minutes for the gas to travel through the line. You can use a natural gas line instead of a propane tank too.
  3. Turn on all the burners and set them at the highest temperature possible. Close the lid and preheat the grill for 10-15 minutes or until it reaches 500°F.
  4. When it reaches the desired temperature, use a long-handled grill brush to clean the grates. Then adjust the burners according to the cooking method and recipe.

Direct vs Indirect Heat:

Direct and indirect heating plays a crucial part in the flavors and taste of your food. Learning how to control them is, thus, essential.

  • Direct heat is when the fire is directly below the food. This is great for those smaller chunks of meat like small chops or kebabs.
  • Indirect heat is when the food is on the other side of the fire. This is better for meats that are larger in size or have bones. This helps to slow cook them. If it requires more than 15 minutes to cook a piece of meat, it needs to be over indirect heat.

Keep in mind, Weber Genesis II E330 gas grill has no hot spots. So the direct heat isn’t so high that your food would just burn. The grill grates heat up evenly for you to not have to deal with tricky cooking situations.

Get a Good Caramelization:

To get a classic caramelized, seared flavor,

  • Use the right level of heat, nothing too high or low.
  • Let it sit and don’t turn your meat more than once.
  • Letting it sit on the grill will slowly create that aroma and taste we all love.

The Best Charr:

To get the best-charred effect quickly, use the sear station. It heats up super fast and gives immediate browning for your larger chunks of meat. Be careful or you might burn your food.

How to Clean Your Weber Genesis II

Cleaning a gas grill is not an easy task. None of us looks forward to doing that part. But the amount of fun we all have while grilling with our family and friends makes it all so worth it.

If you want a durable grill that can survive decades, you have to buy one with cast-iron grates. Other non-stick options tend to wear off after only a year.

The downside of cast iron is, they require a lot of maintenance.

To make it simpler for you, here are our simple steps with tips on how to keep your Weber E330 gas grill in tip-top shape for years:

  • To clean your Weber II, first, remove all the stuck-on food from the grates.
  • Turn on your grill to the highest temperature possible and let the food burn off. Do this for 15-20 minutes until all the food stuck-on turns into ashes.
  • Let your grill cool down for a few hours before you start cleaning it.
  • Use a metal brush to scrape off all the excess charred food. You can use a scraper tool for more control. As you have burned it well beforehand, it should come off fairly easily. To find the best grill brushes, check here.
  • Scrape off the drip tray and side burners too.
  • Wash the trays with soapy water because it has a lot of grease buildup.
  • After you have scraped off every food debris from the surface, use soapy water or dish detergent to gently wipe away the oil and grease. Alternatively, you can use grill cleansers. Find more about top cleansers here.
  • It is recommended to use a microfiber towel for this part.
  • For the exterior frame, spraying soapy water and then wiping with a paper towel is enough. As it’s stainless steel, the grimes will come off really easily.

After you are done cleaning, apply some cooking oil on the grill racks and let it slow-burn for 40-50 minutes. Do this every couple of months and your grill will become non-stick and shiny over time.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

01. What is the difference between Weber Genesis 310 and 330?

Both of the options from Weber genesis series are wonderful for long-term use. While being very similar in function and features, the Genesis 310 and 330 have a few minor differences.

The main difference between these is the side burners and sear station. The Genesis 3110 does not come with these advanced features.

The e330 comes with a 10,000 BTU-per-hour sear station and a 12.000 BTU-per-hour side burner. This makes grilling very versatile and flavorful.

02. Is Weber Genesis better than Weber Spirit?

Both Genesis and Spirit are a really popular series of grills from Weber. Even though they are from the same brand, the features are quite different.

The biggest difference between them is, Weber Spirit grills are designed to be more bare-bones. They do not have as many features as Genesis.

Spirit is also less expensive than Genesis. Weber Spirit is a straightforward grill without any advanced features for the occasional griller.

Genesis has side burners, stainless steel grates, and an extra storage rack. This makes Weber Genesis a better long-term investment than Weber Spirit.

03. How does Weber Sear Station work?

The Weber sear station is a very unique specialized feature of Genesis II E330. It is the ultimate tool in achieving the perfect sear every single time.

The Weber sear station includes three burners positioned close together to provide a higher concentration of heat.

Some grills come with a sear burner but you can not use that space for regular grilling. This is a bummer because that means you waste a  large chunk of cooking surface.

With Weber Genesis II, the surface was designed to function as both a high heat burner and a standard average grill burner. You can use the grilling area for normal grilling and as a sear station!

04. Why is Weber grill so expensive?

You might think Weber grills are expensive because you are used to seeing so many cheaper options on the market. What they don’t tell you is, why those options are so cheap.

Truth to be told, Weber grills are not expensive. They are priced high because building a high-quality grill costs more.

Cheaper grills are made out of thinner sheets of metal. They easily scratch, bend, and are prone to rust after using only for a year. On the other hand, even the cheapest Weber grill would survive 10-12 years easily!

05. Are Weber grills worth the money?

If you are looking for a cheap, affordable option without any guarantee of longevity, then Weber Grills are not for you.

Weber grills provide excellent durability with its high-quality materials and advanced efficient functions. Each grill would easily last you 15-20 years! They come with the best customer support and warranty system in the industry.

So, evaluating all sides, Weber grills are surely worth the money.

Final Word

With their modern, practical design, advanced features, and heavy-duty construction, there is no surprise that Weber Genesis II has become a synonym for outdoor BBQ.

If you are someone who is passionate about their grilling, investing in a gas grill like this is a no-brainer. It is built to last decades without any issue.

Weber-Stephen is one of the oldest and most respected brands for BBQ equipment in the world. They are like the gold standard for grills.

One thing is certain, there is no regretting with Weber Genesis II E330 gas grill

It’s a sleek look, functional cooking surface and solid build will make you obsessed with having more and more barbecues every single week!

Buying the Pit Boss Pellet Grill: What You Need to Know

[amazon box=”B01GFX0104″]

Now that you have read our two cents on  the Pit Boss 700Fb Pellet Grill, it’s time to know the things you should be focusing on while buying a Pit Boss Pellet Grill.

Size:

It is important to know how much space you have for your pellet grill. If you have a smaller backyard, you need something compact and easy to move around. Lucky for you, Pit Boss 700FB Pellet Grill comes with rolling wheels for easy maneuverability.

The size of the cooking surface is another important thing you need to focus on. If you buy something with 300-400 square inches of grilling area, it will be suitable for a family of three to four.

Pit Boss 700FB grill comes with a solid 700 square inches of grilling surface. This means you can easily prepare for 8-10 people! This is perfect for BBQ parties with family and friends.

Temperature Control:

This is a really important feature of any type of grill and smoker. You need to look for something with easy to function controls. Most grills come with knobs that let you set the temperature.

Pit Boss 700FB takes a modern take on this by adding an LED control panel for ease of use. The control panel helps you get precise temperature every single time.

This is really helpful especially if you are into trying different grilling methods. This adds versatility to your cooking.

Performance:

The Pit Boss 700FB can grill for 40 hours without intervals! This is excellent because you can use it as a smoker and slow griller.

The temperature of this model goes as high as 600° Fahrenheit. This means you can use it for a variety of cooking methods such as grilling, searing, smoking, barbecuing, char-grilling, backing, roasting and even braising.

The lowest setting is perfect for slow cooking pork. You get juicy and tender meat without losing any moisture.

There is a special “Smoke Setting” that lets you control how much smoke flavors you want in your food. How convenient!

Design:

While buying a pellet grill, it is important to look for something with user friendly design. You can buy something too complicated and never use it or you can go for a simpler version that motivates you to grill every week!

The design of this grill is very practical. It has a simple setup process that should not take longer than an hour or two. The instructions are clear and come with all the steps you need to follow.

The whole layout is structured to give maximum efficiency and ease while working. The stainless steel  exterior adds a sleek and modern touch to it while the porcelain coating makes cleanup really easy.

Durability:

It is important to focus on durability while buying a pellet grill. The Pit Boss 700FB grill, for example, is made out of heavy-gauge stainless steel.

Most people prefer stainless steel bodies over aluminum options. Stainless steel is heat resistant thus perfect for high temperature cooking.

Even though stainless steel is not the most rust-resistant material, it has a lot of added benefits. Thus having a grill cover makes it moisture-proof as well. This is why Pit Boss 700FB is such a good choice.

Warranty:

As grills are more of an investment, you need to get your money’s worth. One of the ways to ensure that is to purchase something with a great warranty.

The Pit Boss 700FB comes with a 1-year warranty on all parts. This can be a downside as this grill is quite expensive.

They have a 90-day return policy in case you are not satisfied with your purchase. This makes it very convenient to make a decision without worrying too much about regrets.

Maintaining and Cleaning Tips for Pit Boss Grill

While most pellet grills are hard to clean and maintain, taking care of your Pit Boss 700FB grill is fairly easy. All you need to do is follow these steps:

Clean the Lid:

It is very important to clean the lid of the grill. The lid gathers all the oil and moisture. Use a putty knife to scrape off the build up from the lid.

If they are too stubborn, you can use a nylon scrubber or a brush.

If you are looking for some good grill brush options, check out here

Remove the Parts:

Yes, to properly clean your grill, you need to remove all the components of it. This includes the grates, drip tray, and the deflector plate.

Again, use your putty knife to remove the grimes from it. Don’t be too aggressive as this can damage the porcelain coation on the grill grates.

Clean the Chimney:

We tend to overlook this part of the grill too often. We think as the chimney does not have any oil, it doesn’t need a cleanup. This is not true.

Over time the chimney gathers a lot of coal and dust. Cleaning it every few months will ensure better temperature control.

Vacuum It Out:

After you are done scraping and scrubbing everything, bring out your compact vacuum and remove all the excess . you can use both wet and dry vacuums for this.

Use Soapy Water:

For the grill grates and other cleaning areas, use a soft towel and soap water to gently remove the buildup grease and grimes. Then let the grates completely dry before setting it up again.

You can also use grill cleaners for those stubborn grimes. Check out our list for the best options.

Clean the Exterior

As Pit Boss 700FB has a stainless steel exterior, cleaning it is quite simple. All you need is soap water and a napkin.

Spray the cleaning solution on the surface and gently rub. Wipe aways any excess oil and dirt. After you’re done cleaning, it should look brand new!

How to Use Your Pit Boss 700FB

Cooking on your Pit Boss 700FB grill is really simple and fun to do. Due to its wide range of temperature control, you get the freedom to try many different recipes and methods.

Gather Enough Fuel:

Pellet grills need wood pellets for fuel. It is always better to have too much fuel than to have too little.

Pit Boss 700FB needs a specific wood pellet that you can only find at Pit Bros. These woods are free of any kind of chemicals so you have nothing to worry about.

A good measurement is to have around 2 lbs of pellets for every hour of smoking at low temperature. For high heat grilling, you need around 4 lbs per hour.

Set to “Smoke”:

After you have gathered the fuel, open the lid and set the “smoke” option on the control panel. Then all you have to do is put a few pellets and let the grill rise to 400°F.

If you don’t set the “smoke “ button, the grill will continue to eat fuel to reach that temperature. This way you save your fuel for later.

Let the Temperature Rise:

This is the part where you leave your grill alone. Let it rise to the temperature you want. You will know your grill is ready when you see thick smokes coming out of this.

This means the pellets are burning and the grates are getting hot. The smoke usually stops after a few minutes.

Prepare Your Food:

When the grill is getting ready, you can prepare your food and get them to your work area. It only takes three minutes for this grill to be ready.

So you can prepare your food and gather around with your family for the next step of fun.

Always have a few reliable pairs of tongs at hand. Find out the best grill tongs here.

Start Grilling:

Here comes the part we’ve all been waiting for! When you hear the pellets bruning, this is the time to start grilling.

You can control the temperature by pressing on the panel and then put your favourite piece of meat on the surface.

I love to start with a good old fashioned hamburger. Flip it around for a few minutes and voila! Your classic American delight is ready!

We often get burns while grilling for a longer period of time. To be extra safe while cooking, it’s better to buy a good pair of heat-resistant gloves. Check here to know more.

The modern take on this unique grill adds the best of both worlds. You get the classic smoky charred flavor in your meat while having the convenience to use it freely.

As it is made out of three-layered stainless steel, the heat distribution is very equal and even.

One of the best things about stainless steel is, it is durable while maintaining a lightweight feature. So you get years of usage out of this while being highly portable.

The sturdy legs with wheels mean you can easily bring it out and set it up. Although we don’t advise on keeping it outside as stainless steel is prone to rust.

With the foldable side shelves, removable warm racks, and locked wheels, it is one of the most practical charcoal grills out there.

Performance: High Heat Cooking

People love Akorn Char-Griller E16620 because of its high heat cooking abilities. With it’s 314 square-inch surfaces, it can cook for a lot of people.

Whether you’re throwing a BBQ party or you are just hanging out with your friends and family, this gorgeous grill can be a great addition.

If you are new to Kamado grills, then be prepared for a learning curve. They are traditional in functionality. Kamado grills are nothing like your average gas, electric, or kettle grills.

The top and bottom dampers are what helps you control the heat and temperature. You have to be instinctive about it. If you are smoking meat, this is a very important feature to look for.

Akorn Char-griller not only cooks an amazing barbecue, but it can also be used as a slow cooker and smoker.

When you get the hang of those adjustable dampers, you will love to experiment on this thing. From juicy smokey ribs to pulled porks, you will be able to bring out the BBQ flavors to perfection.

Portability: Mounted Cart

As we have mentioned earlier, the foldable side shelves make it really easy to store away. However, it is a relatively heavy grill.

Traditional charcoal girls are made out of solid cast iron which is extremely heavy and in some cases, unmovable.

Akorn uses three layered stainless steel to make it lightweight while keeping the traditional style to it. It weighs around 97lbs and comes with three long legs.

The legs are at the perfect height to cook for an extensive period of time. Whether you are really tall or petite, this size fits every height.

The 3 legs come with lockable wheels which makes the weight of the grill totally irrelevant. You don’t have to lift it to move, instead, pull and pull it to get out of storage.

With the measurement of 45 x 31 x 47 inches, you can easily take this grill for your next camping trip. Whether you are going to the beach or for tailgating, take your trusty Akorn griller and kooker for delicious meat and stakes.

Buying Guide for Akorn Char-Griller: What You Need To Know

[amazon box=”B00GJEPTJS”]

Before you go on and buy a charcoal griller for yourself, there are some things that need to be clear.

To understand what makes Akorn Char-griller and Kooker so unique, we first need to know about the different types of charcoal grills out there.

Types of Charcoal Grills:

There are many different categories of charcoal grills. Each works a little bit differently than the other. Even though all of them can make tasty grilled meat, each has its own advantages.

Kettle Grills:

If you are an American, you know how deeply kettle grills are infused into the culture. It’s a quintessentially American thing.

Kettle grills can be found in the majority of backyards in the countryside as they are durable and easy to use.

A standard kettle grill is spherical-shaped and usually is around 22 inches in diameter. So they are relatively small.

Kettle grill is the best for regular family grilling but might not be suitable to cook for a larger amount of people. They come with a dome-shaped lid that traps the moisture and heat inside for faster cooking.

This is a great grill for high-heat cooking. It’s designed to be simple and straightforward for someone who doesn’t have prior grilling experience. So anyone can use it.

The downside is, it’s not very versatile in the temperature control area. If all you want to do is grill simple burgers and steaks, this will satisfy you.

Barrel Grills:

Barrel grills are popular for their bigger sized cooking surface. They are known as drum smokers which is accurate because they look exactly like steel drums.

They are designed for smoking and thus have a more controlled temperature system. The steady temperature and even heat distribution allow it to slow cook bigger chunks of meat.

As barrel grills are relatively bigger and more expensive, people don’t buy them for everyday use. If you are looking for a smoker that can grill and barbecue as well, a barrel grill is the one to pick.

Because of the size, they are more expensive than kettle grills. Even the most basic one will cost you a few hundred bucks.

So if your primary concern isn’t a smoker, a barrel grill might not be for you.

Ceramic Grills:

A ceramic grill, also known as kamado grill, is a very professional and probably the most expensive type of grill out there.

Ceramic grills come with a solid ceramic interior layer. Ceramic is famous for its even heat distribution abilities. You get superior heat control which is essential for high-quality grilling.

You can not only cook at the highest temperature possible, you can even go as low as 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is amazing because you get the versatility to slow cook and grill on the same machine. Those who are passionate about grilling often invest in a ceramic griller.

Kamado grill provides restaurant-quality seats that are impossible to achieve with any other charcoal grills.

The thick ceramic walls provide proper insulation which means you can grill even in the wintertime.

Why Use Akorn Kamado Char-Griller?

The term Kamado Grills comes from traditional Japanese wood or charcoal fueled cooking appliances called a kamado.

This traditional kamado was made from clay or ceramic to create an “egg” like a vessel whose round shape would add great versatility to the cooking technique. It is kind of an ancient version of a convection oven.

Japanese discovered that this layer of ceramic would provide great stability and insulation to the temperature. This allowed them to be fuel-efficient and creative in the cooking methods.

Akorn Kamado Char-griller and kooker were created with the same mindset. The goal was to bring that ancient and effective design into our modern, everyday life.

Akorn Kamado Grill is built with refractory ceramic that ensures durability and heat retention.

You can use it for baking, roasting, smoking, grilling and so much more. The versatility of this griller is unmatched.

Durability:

While traditional kamado grills are made out of the full ceramic body, this one has a stainless steel exterior. This makes the grill much more durable and resistant.

It won’t shatter or break like other kamado grills. Due to the triple-layered stainless steel construction, you can use it for years without even a scratch on the surface.

User Manual: Char-Griller Akorn Kamado Grill

Akorn Kamado char-grill is really easy to use. If you have never used a kamado grill before, it might take a few attempts to properly understand how it works. But when you do, it’s so worth it.

Pre-Assembled:

Even though it comes with multiple different pieces, the majority of the parts are pre-assembled for you. The other pieces take just a few minutes to set up.

It comes with a detailed user manual that guides you with step by step instructions. You don’t even need a helping hand for this.

Clear Instructions:

The instructions are very clear and simple to understand. Each part comes with individual markings so you can choose them without having to compare them to the sketches on the manual.

Seasoning:

Before you start to grill on this char-griller by Akorn, you need to properly season the grates.

As the grates are made out of solid cast iron, they need to be seasoned with olive oil or sesame oil to make them non-stick.

It’s really simple to do. Just apply a light layer of oil on the grates and let it heat up to 200 degrees and bake for 40 minutes. Season it exactly how you would season your cast-iron pan.

Cleaning Instructions: Akorn Charcoal Grill

Unless you are Monica from Friends, this is the part we all loathe to do. Cleaning is never fun and it takes a lot of time.

With a charcoal grill, it is quite annoying to get rid of all the dusty ashes. But thanks to the ash pan on the Akorn Kamado Charcoal grill, it is really easy.

The side hangers on the grill are removable so you can remove them to dispose of the ashes straight into the garbage bin.

The exterior of the Akorn smoker grill is stainless steel which makes cleanup really easy. You just need a wet wipe to remove all the grease and oil.

The interior of the lid has a porcelain coated finish that can also be wiped to clean.

The only issue with the cleanup is basically the cast iron grates. They can be quite challenging to clean. But if you don’t clean them properly, they will rust away.

The upside of having no non-stick coating on the grates is durability and high heat cooking. The downside is that they are a pain to clean.

However, if you season them really well and consistently, over time they will become non-stick.

Maintenance and Safety Tips for Akorn Kamado Grill

There are some keynotes that you need to focus on if you plan on using this griller and kooker. These tips are appropriate for all Kamado grills in general:

  • Never use lighter fluids or any chemicals to light your charcoal grill. Ceramic is a porous material so it can absorb the fluid and explode.
  • Always remove the ashes after each use. If you don’t then the vents will get clogged and your food won’t cook properly.
  • When you open the grill, make sure you are being slow with it. That’s because kamado grills have solid insulation. A quick influx of oxygen can cause a rush of fuel for the fire. You might end up losing your beard or eyebrows. So be careful!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

01. Are ceramic grills better?

A: Even though it depends on what you are looking for, objectively ceramic grills are much better than any other type.

Ceramic grills are famous for their efficient use of charcoal. As it retains heat better than any other grills, you don’t need as much fuel to keep it hot for longer.

Ceramic grills also cook evenly from both sides. The dome shape distributes heat properly all around the surface making it very reliable for longer, slower cooking methods.

Even though they are the most expensive type of grills, it is definitely worth the investment.

02. How do I clean a kamado grill?

A: In order to clean your kamado grill, you need to put some elbow grease. It is a bit tough because of the cast-iron grates. But once you season it properly cleaning becomes easy.

  • To clean your kamado grill, first, you have to set the temperature up to 700 degrees. Let it heat up for half an hour.
  • Now open all the top and bottom dampers to allow the grill to cool down properly. Then carefully remove all the accessories and parts to properly clean each one.
  • Due to the heat, now it should be easy to scrape off the excess oil and grime from the grill. Use a large grill brush to remove any leftover food that’s stuck to the grates.
  • Let them soak in warm soapy water for a while before you wash it. Don’t put the wet parts back inside the grill. Let it dry completely before you assemble it again.

Thorough cleaning is necessary once every few weeks. For regular cleaning, use only a wet cloth and soap water to wipe away any excess grease.

03. Can you use regular charcoal in an Akorn kamado grill?

A: Yes you can, but it is better not to use them. Regular charcoals are not dense enough to handle such high heat for longer. You will end up using twice as much as you need to.

The best charcoal for Akorn kamado grill is hardwood lump charcoal. These charcoal lasts a long time and is perfect for smoking and slow cooking.

It adds an intense charred flavor as well which is always appreciated. No one ever complains their meat is too smoky, right?

04. Can you burn wood in a kamado grill?

A: Yes you can. But you have to be careful about it. Both wood chips and wood chunks work really well on charcoal kamado grills.

As kamado grills heat up much higher than standard charcoal grills, it can burn dry woods too quickly. To stop that from happening, soak your wood chips in water and use them instead.

Wet woods create a lot of smoke which is great for show cooking. Kamado grills are great for smoking your meat. So using wood instead of charcoal can add depth to the flavor.

05. Should I use lighter fluid to ignite the charcoal?

A: You should never use any kind of fluid or chemicals to ignite the charcoal. This can not only create weird taste but also can be detrimental.

Adding any type of chemicals can cause serious fire hazards if you’re not careful. Ceramic is a porous element. It is made out of clay.

So when you add any lighter fluids to your charcoal, the ceramic absorbs it. And if you heat up the grill too high after that, it can cause serious damage.
